Crikey! There are Blogs out there!

Cutting edge new media outfit, Crikey, as Tim Dunlop notes, has a new feature where you can email them your favourite blog posts. Details here. The shorter Crikey - email a post you like to blogs at crikey dot com dot au - I think (though am not sure) that only those who pay for the site will get to see the posts highlighted there, and I wonder why they don’t just link to a few blogs they recommend on their free page, but hey - the ways of the old new media are mysterious to this humble blogger.

They have shown excellent taste in blogs this week, I must say.

    Getting some traffic, EP?

I wouldn’t know - I’m not a Crikey subscriber. Canberra gossip doesn’t interest me much, to put it lightly.

I’ve had about 80 extra hits today, which might be due to the Crikey influence.

I’m not a Crikey subscriber either, but I saw the page in my referral log.

    The Cosgrove post?

By comparison, the average # of extra hits from a tim post is 150-300, should you wish to pitch your posts accordingly, EP. I believe highlighting spelling mistakes or bagging Margo Kingston might get you a link there.

Yes EP’s blog was referenced in the inaugrual Crikey blog post listing. The post mentioned was “Rugs of war”. But the link was just straight to the top of the blog.

It’s not all Canberra gossip you know Mark. Plenty of Macquarie St, business, even QLD state parliament, gossip and regular sports. Sometimes very accurate.

True, Tyro. Crikey does get some really good info, but it lacks the immediacy and interactivity of blogs. Mark’s implication is correct, IMO, in that it does seem to be run as an online newspaper, albeit with a much more independent (cavalier?) editorial policy. I also suspect Christian Kerr (aka Hilary Bray, the best commentator on the site) has lost a lost of his insider edge since outing himself.

The details page on “blogwatch” highlights exactly where they don’t “get” it. They ask the readership for top blog picks, then ask for the blogs to be cited via email?! Why not a blog facility, FFS? Maybe they should get the Mighty Morphin’ Ausculturejess to show them how it’s done.

they are pretty good on business too.

Dja reckon? I think their business reporting is pretty ordinary, but then the average standard of financial reporting in this country is abysmal. Mayne is OK, but gets caught up in his own crusades. They do get the odd scoop from corporate insiders.

    Try reading the site fyodor.
I know he is keen to build up their database.

Fyodor you could be the David Hassellhof of blogwatch!

Actually a link from Tim Blair is worth about 1000 - 1500 hits, which is pretty darn good.

Homerkles, I often read Crikey, so I do know what I’m talking about. I’ll pass on your second suggestion - the world’s only big enough for one ‘Hof. It’s not worth the hassle if there aren’t babes in bikinis.

Well, EP, more of Tim’s readers obviously follow links to your place than here.
