Hello-

Since I can't find a way to contact the person who wrote this piece directly, I have to leave a comment.

I guess I have to be one of the many photographers out there to educate people about using photographs without permission and how it is both immoral and illegal.

My photo of Aimee Mullins has been used to illustrate your entry. It must have been taken from another place on the web, and yet no photo credit was given and no attempt to contact "the artist" was made.

This kind of thing is a scary and very unfair aspect of the web.

Please add a photo credit to this photo of Aimee Mullins asap reading ©Ali Smith.

Please know that every picture on the web has been taken by someone and that that someone has poured their time, energy, money and soul into making it. That needs to be respected.

thank you-
Ali Smith

My First Blog Meme

in a sign of my spiralling popularity in all the hippest places, I have been tagged by Kim.
So, who would I like to play me in a movie based on my life?

Yeah Mark, you gotta watch the observa for the double entendre, the tongue in cheek and the downright mischevious among the serious.

No probs, observa, I guess it was a pretty heated thread so I didn't pick up that your comments were in jest.

Generally amputees are pretty relaxed about their missing bits, unlike complete outsiders, who tip toe around the subject a bit until they get to know you.

Spot on.

No I wasn't under that impression Mark, although I was beginning to wonder with Kim's reaction. Hence my tongue in cheek comment about a 'legless' apparition of her. Legless has a double meaning of course, although physically I have both of mine. My mate's old man(deceased) had both leg's missing below the knee and I played hockey with a one legged team-mate. His shin pads lasted twice as long as ours naturally. I lost a finger at 15 and it has come in handy as a party trick. My mates would sometimes bet some dills at the pub a round of beers that their mate could stick his finger right up his nose. They were had. When the kids were young I used to tell them that if they picked their nose and sneezed, they'd end up like dad. Worked for a while. Generally amputees are pretty relaxed about their missing bits, unlike complete outsiders, who tip toe around the subject a bit until they get to know you.

Er, observa, you seem to be under the impression both here and at Tim D's that's a photo of Kim. It's not, as would be clear if you read the post.

Can I just state categorically here Kim, et al, that any images of a legless observa from a past era, floating about the internet, are a shameless example of the digital fraudster's art.

If you google Ms Mullins, you'll find that she used to be a Paralympic runner.

I hope she takes them off at some point in bed!
