Do you come here often?

Via Amanda in comments:

On a related note, apparently yesterday was Lurker Day when the usuals shut the hell up and the lurkers tell us who they are and what they want. I for one would like to hear from LP lurkers.

So, if you’re a reader but not a commenter, now’s your chance to make your inaugural comment at LP!

I mostly read and have commented only once or twice.

I read quite a few blogs since my son-in-law pointed them out.
He thought I should read them in my retirement.

I do like it when people are funny here.
My favourites are Mr Fyodor and Mr Paxton.

Mr Fyodor has more consistency whereas Mr Paxton is either very funny or quite the opposite.

The different subjects are quite good too.

Look, I just prefer to watch. I’m not as comfortable being naked as you are OK?

    Fyodor, I am not impressed!

I read a number of blogs such as LP, the Daily Flute, Mr Lefty, John Quiggin, Darp, Tim Dunlop and once in a while Nic White. I rarely contribute to any of the discussions, but I find them interesting nevertheless.

    Homer psst, it wasn’t Fyodor.

Mr Paxton, Miss Kate is correct.
I am not Fyodor. I am very much older and do not possess his under-graduate humour.

Please point out even one occassion when Mr Paxton was “very funny”

What do I want as a Lurker — good debates, rational arguments, and no bell chambers

I like reading all the guest posts and the comments. I enjoy EP, observa, Kate and Rob the most, and I like the debates you have over the article (or any other issue).

I would most likely be classified as a RWDB if I had my own blog, although I am a bit of an agrarian socialist at heart, being born and bred in far western NSW.

I lurk at Currency Lad, Michael Totten, Belmont Club, Gene Expression, Larvatus Prodeo (of course), Tim Blair, A Road to Surfdom, Professor Bunyip and Norm Neil’s Blog. I enjoy blogs as I get a good insight as to how other people think and why they hold the positions they do, however I am coming to believe that a number of people hold positions out of habit, tribal allegiances and old comfort zones rather than good hard thinking.

Keep up the good and interesting work.

actually FXH your music collection is very funny!!

Hello? Homer, Francis. Are you lurkers? Vacate the field, please.

  11. 11 via collinsNo Gravatar

    yeah i’ll bite.

Regulars: Currency Lad, Larvatus Prodeo, Michael Totten, Road To Surfdom, Rob Corr, Barista.

Reasons: Thoughts and opinions outside my life - little chance of meeting an EP or Observa in real life, genuinely interested in the way their minds work.

Moderation: LP easily the most reasonable and civilized forum I’ve scanned in blogdom to date. An almost abuse-free zone - how the hell do you do it?

I’m a lurker at this blog and a few others, most mentioned by previous posters. I’d post more but I agonise too much over what I’m writing, so it takes up too much of my (work) time. However I enjoy reading a good discussion thread so I like the blogs where both left and right leaning people post. Everyone posting “me too” gets boring. LP is certainly not like that.

Does a once-in-a-blue-moon post make me a lurker? If so, to answer Amanda’s question - I want thought-provoking, rational debate. And that’s what I read (mostly) here at LP. I also like Troppo, Quiggin, Catallaxy, Surfdom, ALS. I don’t have the time I used to, to read dozens of blogs, so must confine myself to those worth my time. LP is among the best.

i came here looking for lesbian missy higgins pictures and i’ll keep coming here until i find them…

“…however I am coming to believe that a number of people hold positions out of habit, tribal allegiances and old comfort zones…”

    Lurkers say the wisest things.

So doing this at my blog.

    “Lurkers say the wisest things.”

Well, now that you’ve set the bar so high… way to kill the thread!

I read LP just about every morning. What stops me from contributing is that the comment threads get so long, I’m to buggered to write anything if I manage to get to the end of one.

It’s funny though; I’m probably to the right of most posters here, yet I find myself more at home than at RWDB blogs. Even when in agreeance, I sometimes feel drowned by the bile on that side of the ’sphere.

I have only had a computer for about 16 months and only discovered blogs recently. I lurked around for quite some time before posting my first comment. I’ve given up my dream of going back to Uni because I’m getting a better education on line and it’s free. I also get better comedy. One day when I work out how to face the slings and arrows of hostile commenters I’m going to have my own blog.

I’ll admit to lurking with intent. I’m to the right of centre, Christian and quietly conservative, but enjoy the sharp wit and genuine banter at LP. I had a couple of goes over the ID issues, got ’stoushed’ and found it a bruising but not too damaging experience. A bit like a good game of rugby union - blood, sweat and tears, but a beer after the game (well, I’ll have a soft drink).

I disagree with some of what is said, but I feel Australia is in safe hands if the debate is this intelligent. I won’t dive in too often because I’m not up to the intellectual standard, but I’ll look and learn.

    West Coast for the cup!

Definite lurker but more because I’m no expert on politics and am not particularly profound!!!!…ask me anything about white blood cells, though. I really like posts by Naomi, Kim, and the other gals, and Mark and the nice lefty boys, but have a love-hate thing for EP (you obviously have your finger on the pulse but I cannot begin to agree with you!!!). This blog has a light-hearted buzz that some others lack.

Thanks, everyone, that’s very interesting and I appreciate the kind words.

    Keep the inaugural comments coming!

“i came here looking for lesbian missy higgins pictures and i‚Äôll keep coming here until i find them…”

This one has spirit and passion. Have him bathed, scented, dressed in soft robes and brought to my tent tonight. The others you may give to the soldiers for their amusement.

I come here for the education I missed doing arts and visual arts at uni! The debates swing between hilarious and dead serious without serious abuse. I don’t think I could go a week without stopping in here for a while, even if I don’t feel ‘brainy’ enough to really join into a lot of the arguments. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not dumbing myself down, just haven’t got a polemic/political/academic slant on things anymore. Gave it up for a bit of visual processing. LP is a lot better than reading the newspapers these days…

I don’t like the word ‘lurk’ because it sounds like a small animal in the bushes — although I must admit it is one of the better sounding words in the language.

However, I think I have stumbled upon an incorrect forum. I was looking for a blog about gerberas. Do any of you know about gerberas? Or if there is a blog about gerberas?

I really like the single white ones.

    Thank You.

  24. 24 KimNo Gravatar

I, and most other bloggers I dare say, started off as a lurker. I’d encourage people to comment away!

  25. 25 KimNo Gravatar

    My thanks to Clare too!

  26. 26 KateNo Gravatar

Richard says he enjoys comments by Observa, Rob, EP and myself. Hmmn. “One of these things is not like the others… one of these things just isn’t the same!”

  27. 27 FyodorNo Gravatar

Yeah, EP’s a cat. Face it, Kate: first you’re bourgeois, then you’re a droit and finally it’s just one step beyond to the right and you’re a RWDB.

  28. 28 KimNo Gravatar

    Adroit comment, Fyodor.
