Well, it’s nice to be back! Carol and I arrived back in Brisvegas yesterday morning and I’m slowly recovering from the night flight from Perth. Had an extremely pleasant time: Perth is a beautiful city, and the hospitality of Anthony and partner, Rob, Kate and Manas should be justly renowned throughout the blogosphere! I must also say how extremely pleasant it is for a change to spend five days on holiday not thinking about world events and taking any notice whatever of the news!

Welcome back.
You need a jumper in Perth?
Hadn’t seen that statue of Jack. It’s a beauty.
The Church?
Thanks, C.L.
Aside from Sunday, maximum temperatures hovered between 18 and 22 plus intermittent rain and strong wind - a big difference from Brissie weather at this time of year.
The statue of Jack is in Fremantle outside the Town Hall.
Church is St Mary’s Cathedral.
so it was a curtin call Mark
Fremantle’s tops!
Pleasure to have you over Mark.
It was good to meet you, purple one, and I’m glad you had a good time here in my adopted city.
You know that those are some seriously giant photos right? The browser is resizing them when they’re embedded in your page, but try opening them in a new window to see the nature of the beast. Sucks to be you, modem users.
Perth looks like a smiley place!
Big photos make baby Jesus cry into his modem
They’re appropriately resized using Firefox! Say no to Microsoft!
It was very nice to meet Kate and anthony (and the other kids mentioned in my post) - the superb meal Anthony cooked us on Monday night has its own post at spiceblog.
And folks, I only get quite that ecclesiastical after a few too many reds - a holiday indulgence!
Perth also has lots of excellent cake shops - which is a great comfort to us Latte Lefts!
I’ve one word, Mark. Thumbnail. Please.
I contemplated setting up a flickr account for uploads, Liam, perhaps I should!
Go the Flickr, Mark, makes it all much easier.
What Kate said. And she’d know. I’d want to take pictures nine or more hours a day if I had a camera like hers…
With Kate’s permission, Liam, I could post a photo of her taking a picture with her hi-tech camera!
Yo Marky Mark, I’ll be passing through Brissie en route to messing around in boats in FNQ during the Christmas break. Drinkies? I don’t have much of a thirst and don’t like late nights so it should be a relatively painless and civilised encounter.
Nabs, email me when you’re on your way and I’ll email back my mobile. I’m very well known at both The Alibi Room and The Bowery, both salubrious venues, praised by Melbournites on different occasions…
For readers of the Alibi link, Carol, my Melbourne friend Rachel (who was visiting) and I last night found the rock and roll trivia rather challenging. However, we put this down to the poor public speaking/articulation of the quizmistress and master.
Did have a sighting of BB’s Mikey leaving Anisse in his spiffy gold car, though.
I can verify that!
Also Mark does get very Catholic when pissy. I wouldn’t take it too seriously… all part of the charming package.
Just explainin…
Kim - as you would know, the Bowery bar team were awarded best in Australia and Matthew was one of the Australian finalists as cocktail barperson, despite the fact that the (peer judged) awards are normally Sydney/Melbourne centric…
Mark, feel free to post any piccies you want — but only if you get a Flickr account!
(And I think Mark could sense, with his Super Catholic Powers! the lingering Catholic guilt I’m still carying around, despite not actually being a believer for about 14 years.)
I could never hold a candle to my mate Mark,
My friend Flicka!
Kim
He does. He does. I’d always believed it was port after dessert, apparently it’s confession.
Or substitute - a good Tokay.
In the beginning, was the cake
and the Lord said
“Let there be Latte”….
CL, the statue of Curtin is brand new, unveiled just a few months ago. I think it’s great, and in a fantastic location.
(Though the best monument in Fremantle remains the humble drinking fountain dedicated to the memory of Tom Edwards, working class martyr, killed in 1919.)
