Weekend salon - Holiday edition!

Well, it’s a bit early this week, but the working week is over and it’s cocktail hour. So please utilise this thread to discuss anything you like.

And on behalf of LP bloggers, let me extend to all our readers my very best wishes for a wonderful long weekend. Merry Christmas! Happy Festivus! Merry Bah Humbug! Let the pagan and celtic midsummer bacchanalian revels begin! (We’re a pluralistic lot, we LP bloggers). Love and kisses to all!

With Rob wrapping up Red Rag

will LP take up the IR watch and follow the court challenges?

  2. 2 MarkNo Gravatar

Can’t see why not, vee. We’ve had a fair bit of content on IR, though not the comprehensive updates Rob provided at RedRag.

Merry Christmas all. Just waiting for the iPod to load up, then to pub for a steak hmmmmm and then to my sisters tonight and then to the other sisters tomorrow until tuesday. Much loot will be exchanged. Yay for public holidays — thank Sobek Bananaby saved Christmas. Not.

    Anyway, enjoy.

Compliments of the season to all LP’ers. Thanks to all writers and commenters for an interesting time here.

(Can I be cheeky and ask Santa for a comments preview function for 2006.)

Cheers everyone; have a good one.

Remembering commenters details and a comments preview function are on my LP “to do” list — but I’m heading overseas for a month after Christmas, so unfortunately it’s unlikely to happen before I get back (unless someone volunteers and Mark gives them the keys while I’m gone).

    Merry christmas all!

    Airing of grievances #1

My baby niece has disappointed me this year, and she hasn’t even been born yet.

My sister’s been in labour for over 24 hours now, and frankly I’m sick of waiting.

    Merry SuitYourselfMas to all.

A big thank you to all the triffic posters and commenters who have made LP such a fun playground.

I would also like to strongly recommend the “easy set” 10 ft blow up pool for hot people. Oh, and cold white wine.

Mark - you may be interested in this quiz. My mind is supposedly contemplative of nature and scientific process. Blah.

A Happy Festivus to one and all whether you be a lurker, LP blogger, LWLB or RWDB.

Christmas on the Central Coast and then the Boxing Day drive to the Northern Rivers for a few days. Hoping for a few of the summer storms the area is known for (but not destructive storms - just a good lightning show).

On the wine front, a pinot noir or beaujolais are just as good as white if chilled beforehand. In fact all wine should be chilled in our bloody weather.

Nights and days just perfecto here in the centre of Emerald City dear fellow citizens. Wandering around the Kings Cross environs this evening was heaven on sticks. So mild and beautiful and balmy that bottling would make billionares in winks. All that was missing is national liberty, equality and solidarity - 2006!

    Merry Humbug!

Hehe Anna - what about your poor sister?!

Talking about babies this time of year, I know two people that have due dates around the New Year.

Supposedly, the ‘We Need To Up The Birth Rate’ Bonus goes up to 5 or 6K and they are hoping they can hold it in for the extra money.

Instead of just getting the usual publicity of being the first baby born in 2006, they will be a few K richer.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Grievance #2: FFA world cup tickets. I have broadband, nice and fast. I synchronised my computer’s clock with the FFA travel website. I had the form all set to go. At 1 second past 9am on Tuesday, I sent the application. Some 22000 applications were received by FFA travel that day, so admittedly the odds are low. But, 1 second past 9am - surely this might be within the first 500-900 applications which should account for the 8000 tickets? That said, who is to know how quickly the sent message arrived at the FFA server?

Anyway, 70% of successful applications have been processed and no luck as yet.

Here’s hoping - I guess there’s always the FIFA ballot to go back to.

Are there any other LP readers out there who applied?

Airing of grievances #3: would all private school kids who use the State Library of NSW to go on dates(!) please take your noise and annoying shit elsewhere. Do what the rest of us did—hang out in the car park, drink in the park, or go to work. Thanks in advance class of 2006, class of 2005 if you want to apologise to me I’m be the cranky bugger in the beret winding microfilm on L2.

Seasons greetings all. 2006 is going to be much better than 2005. It’s definite.

I took Anna’s advice and had five gin and tonics last night.

  17. 17 dk.auNo Gravatar

Five, eh Mark. I can’t quite recall how many I had, or what they were! Shaun and co, I’ll have to continue the science related stoushing when I get back from the Xmas break in a couple of days.

I hope everyone has a happy, safe and relaxing time with family and friends.

Christmas is all about a declaration of peace to all mankind. I hope you all find some, and have an excellent time!

Merry Christmas to all. I hope you are all keeping cool with sweet cocktails and icy beer! Happy blogging in the new year.

Thanks to Ron, Live Preview has been reinstated…

I’ll second that Guy. I wish I could drink five Gin and tonic’s without falling down, throwing up or generally feeling icky.

Christmas - shmishmass-have a safe and a happy time and thanks for being a bunch of bright sparks.

Is that sleigh bells I hear? Either that or a fire alarm. Just listening to an AC/DC seasonal classic.

Merry Christmas all, just waiting for the brioche to rise (which may me a minor christmas miracle). Cheers for dishing out the lefty joy for the year and the best to you and your loved ones.

  25. 25 MarkNo Gravatar

My flatmate Michael and I have had a thoroughly Australian and multicultural Xmas eve - dining on octopus salad, watching The Iron Chef and In Siberia Tonight on sbs, then venturing off to Holy Spirit Church here at New Farm for a Midnight Mass half in Italian and half in English topped off with yummy Italian cake and complimentary champagne on the church steps! Wishing everyone a totally wonderful day and may all your Xmas wishes be granted and dreams fulfilled!

Baby niece arrived Christmas night. It was pretty hard work timing contractions and eating lunch :)
Very cute but bruised little thing!!
