The US Secretary of State is lonely, bitter (with great legs)

Condoleezza Rice criticises Russia because:
a. Foreign policy is in her job description;
b. She knows quite a lot about Russia; or
c. She’s a bitter, unsatisfied spinster.

Before I begin a reasoned, serious discussion about a subject matter far more suited to married fathers, I feel it my duty to disclose that Mac is my lipstick of choice, and that, while partnered, my uterus is empty and likely to be so for some time.

The US Secretary of State has criticised Russia for using its fuel resources as a political weapon; drastically raising the price of gas to Ukraine in what she argues is revenge for the “Orange Revolution and President Viktor Yushchenko’s support of the West.

A miserable old spinster would say that, wouldn’t she? It’s probably her fault that Ariel Sharon is in a coma, too. Damn her skinny legs and high heels.

Condoleezza Rice is not a woman; she is a function. No wonder she is still a Ms, not Mrs.

Who on Earth will agree to build a relationship with a woman, who is ready to stand up and fight at any moment? Ms. Rice looks good for her profession indeed, but she has already celebrated her 50th birthday. Lonely women usually become resentful and unrestrained at this age.

When will women learn? Being the most powerful woman on earth (second perhaps to Oprah, who is also – unsurprisingly – single) means nothing without the love and guidance of a good man. None of the boys will want to debate foreign policy with you if you are a barren old crone.

I’d say more, but I’m fast reaching my expiry date, and to be honest, orange just isn’t my colour. Pass me the sick-bucket eye-cream, please.

There’s the old Russian saying I heard about: There’s no truth in ‘News’ (Izvestia) and no news in ‘Truth’ (Pravda). That was a pre-1991 joke but it’s probably still reflective of Russian media. Yawn.

Still, you’ve got to admit that it’s pretty funny for any US Secretary of State to object to the use of energy policy as a political weapon.

It’s very depressing that the LDP (Zhirinovsky) and the equally kooky Communists are the most visible opposition in Russia’s “managed democracy.”

And I should note also that the Russian media on Rice sound remarkably similar in many respects to a lot of the Australian media on Vanstone, Gillard, Bishop, Lawrence, etc. ad infinitum.

    Anna
But I thought chasing a career at any cost was the ideal. What happaned to that?

Would you in all honestly, have written the same the about the other older Quasi-spinster that occupied the same position only 6 years ago? Damn! I am hopeless with names. Who was she again.

This one is much prettier don’t you think, and great legs too?

On a serious note though. When the sec. of state speaks -especially the Sec. of State- it is not the person talking, it is national policy talking. Every word, every comma and full stop is vetted a hundred times before it goes out to the public domain. Because in this area of public policy words really do have consequences.
My guess is her wrods are chosen very carefull and not just by her.

That song has always made me exceedingly uncomfortable.

Pravda continues with the Russian line of celebrating State underperformance and criticising individual achievement - its always bad news from Moscow.

My understanding was, from reading my tea leaves, that Putin thought the Ukraine should be getting their gas at the same price as the rest of Europe i.e. market price. What’s wrong with that? Surely the newly capitalistic Ukrainians can understand the correctness of paying market prices? And what’s Rice’s problem with this anyway? Inisisting someone pay what the rest of the market is paying is now “punishment”? Hmmm… But, hey, yeah, great legs… Still, I’d be utterly untempted… I keep getting visions of black widow spiders…

condy is not highly thought by the Cato institute who think her intellectual credentials are as abad as her foreign affair ones.

I’m not saying I agree with what she’s said. Just that her statements should be addressed on their merits. Like Liam says, the US objecting to using economic policy for political gain is ironic.

However, she does have a point about the timing - it would probably be more fair to bring in the new prices more gradually.

And Shaun, I’m with Amanda - that is a very disturbing song indeed!
