There was a bit of a debate on daylight saving in Queensland back in summer, with me arguing against it and John Quiggin for. If you’re in favour, you can go sign Jo Jacobs’ e-petition.
In other news, Kim has had her first article published over at Online Opinion, an adaptation of her recent LP post on truth, lies, politics and Walletgate. Unfortunately she’s away this week and out of internet range!

You can also sign if you OPPOSE the petition. I’ve been trying to do that since yesterday lunchtime, but my account is “not yet activated”, no matter how many times I try to confirm it.

I’ll let Jo know about the problem you’re having, Darryl.
And Jo’s let me know, and I will look into it asap, as it’s our site design.
Good on you Kim. I still disagree with the article, but it was a very good piece.
Just thought I’d take this opportunity to mention it’s Lefty E’s birthday today
Heh. I just said happy birthday to Lefty E on the other thread where you mentioned it
Thank you Mark! Yes, 38. Can you believe we’ve been 19 twice?
(Come to think of it, Im quite sure you came to my 19th b’day party, Mark… you and your old mate who ran the Upstairs room)
That’s right, Lefty E - Jeff. Now Dr Jeff
Jeff - that’s right…. Dr of what?
Philosophy, did his thesis in History at UQ - he went there as a mature age student so it was after we were around. He’s working as a curator at the Qld Museum now, last I heard.
Clive Moore was his supervisor - I think his research was on military history in the Pacific.
Btw - it certainly doesn’t feel like half a lifetime ago!
I for one feel no more mature!
(Bit heavier, certainly…)
And I thought it was Adelaide where one bumped into a schoolmate or a cousin’s ex-lover around every corner - seems they have nothing on BrisVegas!
Oh God yeah - Brisvegas is well known as the town of half a degree of separation!
Sorry to break into the birthday celebrations, but I thought I’d let you know that we’ve fixed the glitch and you can now all go and vote against Jo’s daylight saving petition.
The problem was that the program was calling code from a library which was on the OLO site, but not on the Petitions Queensland site. Apparently not a problem if your browser window was still open, but certainly a problem if you had closed it.
Definitely a “cock-up” and not a “conspiracy”! (Although maybe I should check how our software engineer, Lachlan, voted before being too dogmatic, ;-))
Thanks to Darryl for letting us know. The part of the petition site I’m most proud of is the innovation of allowing people to vote against! If Toowoomba was using one of these they might not need to vote on recycling tomorrow.
Happy Birthday, Lefty E!
xxxx
And I’m just back, and thanks Michael…
