Coonan and Howard v Reality

On ABC Radio October 10, 2006:

Senator Coonan also says she does not expect the overhaul to spark a wave of takeovers in the industry.

She says stringent safeguards mean the shake-up will not prompt a flood of mergers.

“I certainly don’t expect to see that,” she said.

Coonan admits it caused the frenzy but denies its going to create mergers. It’s all merely defensive. It’s all in The Australian

Thanks Oz. I didn’t see that one earlier today.

She seems not suprised that there is some positioning which sorta goes against her initial statements. Oh to the be a politican and to choose reality when it suits.

    Everybody:
Cheer up. It’s not all bad news.

Look a little further into the future and there are some wonderful opportunities …. when certain public servants, institutional authorities, corporate scoundrels and, oh yes, a foolish politician or two are reflecting on their misdeeds from inside their prison …. and the newly-formed Department of Economic Reconstruction faces the onerous task of untangling the horribly inefficient news media monopoly/duopoly …..

We will have an opportunity to start from the ground up with a completely new and technically advanced system of communication, entertainment, information and even education; a system free of all the inherited rubbish of 19th Century newspaper, telephone and telegraph companies.

No, not a Brave New World, just news media that actually informs, entertainment that actually entertains, communications that actually allow people to communicate whenever and wherever they like. The future will be great :-)
