Troppo’s Best Blog Posts of 2006

Over at Troppo, Ken Parish and Nick Gruen are seeking nominations for best blog posts of 2006. The idea sprang from the largely disappointing selection of pieces in Black Inc’s Best Australian Essays (discussed by Gummo here and reviewed by Ken at Troppo), and a consequent desire to showcase the quality of writing in the blogosphere. The selection of posts will be highlighted both at Troppo and Online Opinion.

Update: …and it’s almost time for Vlado Kekoc’s Australian Blog Awards. He runs his awards based on an optional preferential voting system, and puts in a lot of work to make it all happen. Nominations will be opened shortly are now open, so keep your eyes peeled head over and nominate your faves. —RC.

The trouble with blog posts is that they are rather ephemeral. They are hard to remember.

Ummm, I’d nominate Rebekka Power for her Evil Pagans not welcome post for giving us the lovely girly side of Christianity.

I’d nominate me for my “learned” post about Art Speigelman (Jason Soon said it was so it must be true).

And I’d make a general nomination for Adrian the Cabbie and his lovely posts about life in a taxi. Adrian’s one of those writers who you think, “Cripes, he’s a grown-up”.

    I’d like to nominate

[I think I fixed them --- but the last sentence was just cut off. ---RC.]

Sorry, the links went a bit spaz on me, I think I forgot to close them off.

Oh, I wanted to also suggest a post Guy from Polemica wrote about his great-grandfather, but I can’t find his archive to find it.

I have to agree with Darlene about the ephemeral nature of a blog post… but a great post will stick in the memory for some time… and even if you’re not able to remember them all, the blogs archives act as a great reminder of the past years reading.

BTW… Nominations for 2007 Australian Blogs Awards are now open.

Well I’m chuffed Darlene – thanks. The post you speak of is tucked away here.

Lachlan Connor, Independent, brought to you by the team at Grodscorp.

I’d back you up on that, Lynn. Lachlan has the right mix of wisdom and insight combined with the sort of ratf**king pragmatism we need in a top notch senate candidate.

thanks for putting the link in!

I just think Lachlan seems really nice and his ex-girlfriend must be such a bitch to go to his blog and make nasty comments and stuff.

I know, Lynn. She’s probably deranged or on drugs or a terrorist or something.

Doctor Faustus onPathologising the Arsehole is worth a look.

I say reject self-referential awards! Each reader values each post/comment in their own way… let it stay that way.

Ooh, how very post-modern of you! :)
