I was doing a bit of housework around the blog the other night and removed some links from the blogroll which pointed to blogs that were defunct or hadn’t updated in a long long time. We haven’t done any systematic review of the blogroll for ages, so it’s time to invite people to make suggestions about what should be added (don’t be shy about nominating your own blog). Generally we link only to Australian blogs, and ones whose politics we’re generally in sympathy with, or alternatively identify themselves as being in some way left of centre (Rob gets a pass because he voted for Latho! And because his beloved Euston Manifesto purports to be a left document). It’s not restricted to political blogs in the big P political sense as LP’s ethos has always been that the political is an inclusive and broad category not restricted to discussion of polls, policy and paties.
So, suggest away!
Reminder: While we’re talking blogs, don’t forget to pop over to Collective Apathy to nominate your favourite blogs in a wide range of categories for the 2007 Australian Blog Awards so it’s not just a competition between the usual suspects.

I suggest:
bekk’s blog
Path of Most Resistance
Jabberwocky
and
Half Hearted Hack
Thanks, audrey!
Blogs with cocktail recipes are always appealling!
A shameless self-nomination for Soap Box.
A new-comer to the world of blogging, I’m not a prolific blogster (I also have a life to live) but usually manage one or two pieces a week.
I did some of that blogroll housekeeping today too. V. satisfying.
Hows about deleting the rather out of date world cup poll?
Let’s Take Over and Last Superpower definitely don’t agree with the broad politics of this site, but we do both identify as (far) left of centre.
Not sure if they fit in with your focus or not.
But, if you are in spring-cleaning mode, are you sure a blogroll is a good use of valuable blog real estate anyway?
I rarely use them myself to find things to read, and don’t have one on LTO. I think an post with a link to a blog that has just published a good article is worth far, far more to the ‘receiving’ blog than a name in a blogroll, which has no explanation as to why it is worth spending time at.
Oh, and Zoe Brain’s politics are libertarian right, but her posts about her recent sexual reassignment surgery (she is a M2F transgender) would fit in well with the recent debate on personal vs political issues.
Nick Possum’s page looks like it fits in broadly with LP’s take, and it features a possum in a private-eye trenchcoat exploring the evils of the world.
Thanks, Amanda, had completely forgotten about it.
Thanks, David.
Zoe’s commented here before, as I recall.
As you’re encouraging
self-promotionself-nomination, I’d like to nominate Sterne. I’ll also point you in the direction of Whale Sushi, a relatively new blog that is often very funny.Dogpossum is the dog’s - well … possum.
Nick Cetacean of Whale Sushi is very, very funny, as is Miss TJ of the Teejmahal.
Marrickvillia is a triffic read, as is Bernice Balcony’s Baloney.
Too many links, comment in the mod queue.
A two good non-political blogs
Vertigo
Articulate
Vertigo in particular has some good links to other sites which can lead to hours of procrastination
Also there’s my own one (yay for self-promotion) though lately it seems my posts seem to be more music related than politics related, mainly because January has many good shows coming up.
Unmodded, Zoe.
Thanks folks - keep em comin.
Normally modesty would prevent me from nominating me good self, but these are not normal times. Oh they are? Bugger!
Funny you mention this, as I actually thought your site needed a blogroll when i visited last week David. So many interesting ideas and links, i dont think it would hurt to include some other sites of interest to your way of thinking.
To my mind, blogrolls are a little like shopping precincts; you might have only intended to visit one shop, but if you have some time to meander you just might discover a great new boutique, or even bump into someone you haven’t seen in ages.
(And doesn’ take long to figure out which blogrolls are like shopping at Westfield and those more reminicent of Boundary st West End)
John Humphreys’ official Australian Libertarian Society blog is worth a read; he’s the one who came up with the LDP’s fully costed GMI/NIT policy.
http://alsblog.wordpress.com/
I’d like to nominate Alex. He’s a great guy, and runs a blog exploring issues not often looked at within the blogosphere.
Note to self - Don’t use real name.
Spinopsys? I hear it’s good. Not that the Australia blog awards would know about it, they have no sports category which is pretty shitty of them really. I’m not nomiatin’ anyone until they correct this gross oversight.
GrodsCorp votes for GrodsCorp.
I find the lack of AC/DC references in the blog roll disturbing.
Thanks for the feedback sublime cowgirl.
I’ve just put a delicious tagroll in my sidebar which includes ‘brisbaneblogs’, which is sortakinda my blogroll but not really.
If I was to do a blogroll, I would keep it shorter than most and have brief explanations as to why I choose to visit certain sites.
EG if I was linking to your poligoths site the link would look like:
Poligoths - somewhat disturbing caricatures, mostly of Australian politicians, including Qld Premier Peter Beattie and his deputy Anna Bligh as the Munsters
Trackback.
And if you could do what you did for SG for every link, David, you’d have an awesome blogroll. It’d also give you an incentive to keep it short, too.
I think it would get a lot more people clicking through than I suspect click on the links of the average blogroll, skepticlawyer. Habits of an ex-classified ad salesman…
Also, while we are talking about tidying up, I don’t understand the explanation of the meaning of ‘Larvatus Prodeo’, and I think it should be made more explicit.
From the quote past the link, I think it means ‘masked actor’?
Mind you, before I followed the ‘about LP’ link, I thought it meant “The Worm That Turned” or something like that.
Always go masked…
My suggestion: it’s focussed on the west coast, and lacks any real comment whatsoever, but Houses and Motions is hilarious
I nominate my own blog;
The Horse, He’s Sick. The blog’s topic is mostly electronic music.
Desperate Houso for all matters public housing and Centrelink.
Also: if you’re going to link to Catallaxy then, bugger it, mine.
So why do you link to Catallaxy? It’s the antithesis of this blog.
I second Jabberwocky and Dogpossum.
Surprised you haven’t linked Sterne yet.
I nominate Comic Mummy, another Brisvegan blog by a comedian, writer, assassin, mother of two, and expert in the loxodromical foxtrot, and I only lied about two things in this sentence. Anyway, well worth the link.
Jabberwocky Online.
Perhaps a link to the Vibewire blogs, the mainstay of Vibewire at the moment. They have some really talented writers on board at the moment, as well as boring young farts like me.
Sukrit’s blog - thoughts mainly from the Libertarian right.
Theatre Notes.
Cheers for relinking my blog, I really appreciate that.
Here’s mine: God’s Chariot
A continuation of an old blog at a new location, after a year or so of precious little activity.
I qualify probably only by virtue of living in Australia (Queensland), my subject matter is um, a bit all over the place.
Fake news, fake columnists with a um, satirical bent, is the usual fare.
Modesty prevents me from nominating my own. Actually, no it doesn’t. Subject matter is pretty much climate change and the debunking of prominent denialists, with other sciency and non-sciency bits and pieces thrown in.
Don’t delete me… I’m just resting
Thankyou for your continued indulgence.
City to Sea
I like this post Mark. You should make it regular and people can link to their most recent favourite post.
The Art of Drink. US-centric but still cool.
Some of the Australian Muslim blogs:
Austrolabe, Planet Irf, and Dervish
I second Austrolabe, in fact I was just this moment about to suggest it. It’s a great blog.
We’ve already got Dervish.
Just been checking out some of the suggestions - some great blogs there indeed.
A couple (ok, several) more:
fridaysixpm http://www.fridaysixpm.com/
prawnwarp http://prawnwarp.livejournal.com/
Sophie Cunningham http://www.sophiecunningham.com/blog/
Mark Lawrence http://marklawrence.blogspot.com/
Andrew E
Your links aren’t working - or at least they aren’t working for me. They seem to go back to an LP site.
not Australian - but I thought I’d self-promote No Right Turn, which looks at New Zealand and global politics from a left - liberal perspective.
I guess we could stretch a point and go Antipodean
Added a lot of the links now!
Thank you for the link to me given that I frequently argue against the positions expressed here at LP.
