With just under two weeks from the NSW election and Debnam has given the earliest concession speech that I know of. The polls show that Debnam is extremely unlikely to gain enough seats to upset Labor’s majority so the plan is to have voters “send Labor a message.”
If the polls are correct, the NSW Liberals should be more concerned with understanding the message they have already received from the NSW voters.
So with the Libs about to rollover that leaves us time to chuckle over the loony fringe like the the Reverend Fred Nile deciding that he wants to halt Muslim immigration into NSW.

Maybe it was the disturbingly watchable “In The
NavyLiberals” ad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkfL6PcKA98 that made him realise it was all over.Has this actually been on TV, or is it a YouTube only thing?
Shaun Cronin says:
Skepticism about the level of Muslim immigration does not come just come from the “loony fringe”. The SMH reports Professor Israeli, an expert on Islamic history from Hebrew University in Jerusalem, suggests the when the Muslim population reaches critical mass a tipping point towards social unrest occurs:
“Where there are large Muslim populations who are prepared to use violence you are in trouble. If there is only 1 or 2 per cent they don’t dare to do it – they don’t have the backing of big communities. They know they are drowned in the environment of non-Muslims and are better behaved.”
He said Muslim immigrants had a reputation for manipulating the values of Western countries, taking advantage of their hospitality and tolerance.
In Australia, Muslims account for about 1.5 per cent of the population.
Professor Israeli said that when the Muslim population increased, so did the risk of violence.
Professor Israeli said that in France, which has the highest proportion of Muslims in Europe at about 10 per cent, it was already too late. There were regions even the police were scared to enter,
THe professor is correct to say that “size matters” when talking about countries that accept large nnumbers of culturally diverse immigrants without taking proper steps to ensure integration.
Personally I think he is wrong to point the finger at Muslims per se. The problem lies with uncivilised immigrants coming from pre-modern tribalist areas, who are prone to adopt fundamentalist Islam when confronted with post-modern globalism. This is really the old problem of town versus country replayed on a global scale.
The solution is to only accept immigrants who have high IQ and accept modernist norms. Thus well-educated moderate Muslims from metropolitan cities in places like Turkey and Malaya will likely make the cut.
Didn’t Fred say something similarly odd last election? It’s probably just a flag to remind potential voters that the CDP’s still around.
Back in the mid 80s, Fred said that homosexuals should be banned from NSW beaches. so that they could be “AIDS-free zones”/
How so? Because mosquitoes might sting the homosexuals as they were sunbaking, draw HIV-infected blood, and then sting and infect other (heterosexual) people on the beach.
With Fred Nile, the lyrics change, but The Song Remains The Same.
Hasn’t been on TV DJ. This is where it comes from.
Jack Strocchi I have to be frist to say.. “Prof Israeli would say that”.
This pickin’ and choosin’ you do worries me, too.
“The solution is to only accept immigrants who have high IQ and accept modernist norms”.
These “modernist norms” you talk about are tearing the suburbs apart. With berets, saabs and 60’s houses they are causing chaos. If only they had never encouraged Norm to get off the couch.
This is a perfect chance for people to send a message to the majors and vote for a third party like the Democrats, Greens or even one of the Right Wing ones. Face it, both state Labor and Liberals need a good kick up the pants.
What does the Rev Fred propose to do with the 1,000 Aboriginal converts to Islam?
First, it’s interesting that Nile has given up attacking the Mardi Gras and has now turned on the Muslims. Extending the Defacto Relationships Act to gay couples could be closer than you think.
Second, the story Shaun cites is the problem with goldfish-bowl political reporting: this is what the Libs have done for the last three elections. Between elections, you send a message: at elections you make a decision. At each of the past three elections the decision has been: cheer up, it could be worse.
Politicians love to claim to be the underdog, but now that Debnam is clearly in that position he’s starting to look desperate. Debnam getting snarly recalls John Hewson losing it in ‘93 – but it’s not all down to him. It’s amazing that State Liberal leaders actually listen to people from Howard’s office, because Howard explicitly does not want Liberal governments at the state level drawing campaign funds, limelight and power away from himself.
I thought it was net only too, but the SMH had this in-depth “debnam the man” piece] in its saturday edition which mentioned that the reporter actually sat in the lounge room with the debnam family and watched their reactions as the “in the navy” ad flashed across the screen.
Thanks for that arleeshar…the article points me to debnamrecord.com which has it listed as a TV ad. I’ve watched it 5 or 6 times already.
I NEVER watch political ads 5 or 6 times. This one is actually funny.
Apologies. I live in a safe seat, and have seem all the “don’t risk him” ads on telly but not the song, although I would certainly like to.
We’ll overlook it this time Chris, but if it happens again you’ll be tied down in the comfy chair while every single speech the Prime Minister has ever made is played at you.
I’m a cruel man, but fair.
Jack Strocchi:
Gee, this wouldn’t happen to be the same Professor Israeli who was dumped by the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council for his “unacceptable and unhelpful” remarks, would it?
Israeli is a racist eliminationist; the very personification of the “loony fringe”.
Methinks the loony fringe gets in Jack’s eyes occasionally.
