Hi John Greenfield, pardon the delay. Fair enough, your points are well taken. Thanks for the very gracious clarifying post. Re: ANZAC beers for next year, good idea. You'd have to brave the inner city elitist basket-weaving crowd, though, as I usually drink and play two-up at my local, Dick's Hotel in Balmain. By all means give me an email if you're going to be around Sydney at the right time. We can probably have a good old blue about multiculturusm, too...although TBH as JPZ deftly implied I doubt we're as far from each other in the Culture War (sic) as you, me, and about 19, 000, 000 other reluctant combatents have been manipulated into believing, by the last ten years of pantomime dog-whistling from both sides of MSM politics. All the best.

JPZ, thanks for those comments. Very generous.

I was supposed to go to the Fabians do on Friday night, but fortunately had a timetable clash. The though of sitting through the Luvvie treakle of Maxine McKew and David Marr would be enough to make anybody hurl their cookies.

"No one asked about religion or sect. No one bothered with what was considered a trivial topic"

Unless of course you happened to be a Kurd or on another shit list..

Meanwhile, the spoiled brat Marr was at his best on Insiders today, most huffy when his snide remarks turned back on him vitually word for word..Finished the session arms folded, lips pouting..Sad Little Freak it is

Jack R: "Bloke walks into a bar..." -- Best laugh I've had in a while. Good one! Both you & John G. wrote interesting and highly readable Anzac Day pieces, even if they were (but were they really?) in conflict, which I wouldn't want to be the judge of... Still, great and thoughtful job, JR, even coming from somebody like me who isn't really qualified to assess. Rock on!

SQUARE ALERT: Probable Unintentionally Comedic Music Update, from Non-Hipster Who Doesn't Know If He's Repeating Very Old News...

Normally I don't know much about recent music, but there's a contemporary rock band called The Decemberists, who recently did a very good deed for some friends of mine; so in a spirit of thanks and reciprocation I went and bought some of their records... and they turn out to be awesome! (Many of you who keep up, have probably long since formed yr own opinon.)

Their little EP "The Tain" is one of the best long-form rock compositions I've heard since Tull's "Thick as a Brick," and they have a record called "Picaresque" that has two songs, "Sporting Life" and "16 Military Wives" that are some of the most entertaining songwriting I've come across in a dog's age... If you want to reward virtue, then buy some records by these people. Salut!

David Jackmanson:
Thanks for posting your ANZAC Day photoessay. Sorry I couldn't view it as I have only 3rd-world dial-up out here [same goes for YouTube].

Anna Winter [3;30am]
Works well with any spirit that doesn't overpower the Cointreau and soda water. Wonder if Devil Drink and SteveAtThePub have opinions on it?

Bowl Of Oranges:
Kim mightn't like the moniker but it's no worse than some others floating around.

Strike me bloody pink, mate. If that wasn't you in fight mode please give me a lot of warning should you ever feel being provoked into fight mode. So I can head for the hills! :)

I didn't disrespect your sincerity, especially not toward your own personal experiences. My only beef was when you tarred MY experience of the dawn service, etc. with the a shed full of straw: of excluding "others." I have a particular beef with debate that starts obsessively accusing others of othering.

If you'd read MY post carefully enough, you would have realized I was experiencing Anzac Day as an incredibly inclusive ritual/experience/memorialisation that transcends our differences, whether they be ethnic, age, or political.

However I will not retract my long-held view that state-imposed multiculti was the biggest disaster a certain sliver of leftists ever took. And I sing from the rafters the news of its demise. As I argued when the multiculti set took over the ALP, "this will be the end of Labor and the Left."

So if you are going to paint me as being some 300-worshipping, keyboard warrior, Princess Diana-worshipping "guardian of the myth" you are free to do so. Just do not expect it to go unanswered in kind.

If my post struck you as ridiculing you, then I sincerely apologize. Perhaps next year, we can share a few beers, a game of two-up and THEN discuess the Day. ;)

As cribbed from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_Agents

<em>'Phantom Agents: Modern day ninjas working for the Japanese government, mostly against the dastardly "Intercrime" organization.

Armed with ninja weapons such as shuriken and use guns "only as a last resort," as patiently explained to only female member.

Used to run everywhere in single file, but now drive Toyota Crown Saloon.'</em>

Yeah, pretty happy with that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKIiNl9cKzE

Is this new moniker a goer?

Kinda thinking the same thing myself…</em>

In your case I think the answer is no. Any such references to the SS are distasteful.

<blockquote>New monikers tend to work better with gravatars/URLs up there in the author line. Otherwise, Ilsa, only the LP moderators know who you used to be, and all your scandals.</blockquote>

Works for me TT, especially since I've discovered all these vampires in the basement. Had problems with non-functioning gravatars in the past but I'll have to give that another bash.

I have noticed a distinct lack of ninja monikers. Why is this?

A few months ago I alerted LPers to the discovery of a cancer cure called DCA. Now another cure has been discovered, and it's the well-known antioxidant anthocyanidin found in dark berries. The article that follows tells how anthocyanidin destroys leukaemia cells, but the mechanism by which it works is exactly the same as that of DCA. This should tell us that anthocyanidin will work on just about any form of cancer. If you know anyone with cancer, you have an obligation to let them know about this latest research.

BTW - can anyone tell me what <em>Rattus australicus Howardii</em> was doing by way of paid employment between 1971 (when he won his spurs in NSW state politics) and 1974. All the on-line bios I've seen leave you to assume that he went back to soliciting in suburbia but I'd like to know for sure.
