The last time I checked in to DOI, I witnessed Hairshirt Hamilton and Duncan Fine (Mr. Catharine Lumby) having a catfight over the (alleged) sexualization of children in advertising. Mr. Fine charmingly suggested that Dr. Hamilton was a dirty old man and that the problem was with his own paedo-perversions, rather than the agency guns at Mojo, Satchi, etc. Mr. Fine and his wife have recently published a very serious tour de force of scholarship titled “Why TV is Good For Kids.”
During the catfight, Mr. Fine employed such elevated rhetorical methods as comparing his opponents to the Taliban. That is, when they weren’t being accused of of being proto-kiddy-fiddlers. Mr. Fine also shrieked “moral panic” several times.
Kim, if this is the calibre of debate your Moral Panic Monday threads are designed to support/defend, I am afraid I will have to disagree with you on this one.

Mr (values) Howard has already captured this little meme, as well as the latest neocon theme, in his little reminder about ‘immigrants with HIV/AIDS’ and how he is against them being let into the country’ about three weeks ago. Funny though, I haven’t heard much about it since. Maybe he is waiting for a time closer to the elections to launch that little number. Also, you would do well to know that Australia’s immigration attitude towards people with highly infectious diseases was laid down in Keating’s day. Well if Howard is desperate enough to be urging everybody to pray for rain, then I guess finding more immigrants to demonise would be the next logical step. He’s probably praying for another lot of children to throw overboard right now. Honestly I’ve had enough of bloody christians in government – christians to the right of us, christians to the left. things are already “really desperate” for the govt. Heard Malcolm Fraser on the radio today. Mal reckons that the The Big Fright before the next election will come at the expense of the Muslim commununity, in much the same way that Roman Catholics were “it”in Oz in the first half of the 20th cent. eg. “They’re not real Aussies because they owe their primary allegience to The Pope”, or in this case some terrorist-loving Ayatollah or Iman.
Mal knows what The Rodent is capable of. He made him Federal Treasurer once. So maybe Australian Muslims will be The Rodent’s Satan du jour this campaign.

The man mentioned in the Utah blog was crying it was a serious Republican Party meeting and one must assume he has some relevant importance in Utah.Crying and making the comments he made springs from a obvious and yet,strange to me,deep belief the UNO is evil.I could say objectively,that,has occured to me also as a word that has definition.Sad thing is,maybe he hasnt met anyone within the UNO charter he could appreciate. Rudd might have a bit of a credibility issue there after his recent invitation to Hilayly to go back where he came from. If Labor does not ‘me-too’ any Howard dog-whistling on this it will be disastrous at the ballot box.
