Sitting down? Good.
Had a nice filling morning tea? Even better.
Read about the Hunan rat plague, and click through to the Reuters video (ignoring the annoying ad at the start).
Trust me, the involuntary shivering stops after about fifteen minutes.

a song i used in a interrupted project that stuck in my mind & invades my dreams, thankfully...& an accompanying video that reminds us of how far we have to go...:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tluogv9EGTQ

jinmaro...:)...a gorgeous poem by a perceptive individual...how often people have accused me of being inebriated on alcohol when i've been drunk on Life & Existence & all that it entails & demands of us...i can't tell you...but i'm sure i'd startle a few noses w/ the vapours lingering from my sober dreams...lately, more than those exhaled on more than tipsy nights. But people will think what they think, & in the long run it matters not where fingers point, but whether they can be flexed...or remain rigid til ashed or fallen, in vase or six feet under.

For too many in Iraq, it is the latter.

for Nasking....

I taste a liquor never brewed
From Tankards scooped in Pearl.
Not all the vats upon the Rhine
Yield such an alcohol!

Inebriate of air - am I
And Debauchee of Dew.
Reeling - thro endless summer days
From inns of molten blue.

When "Landlords" turn the drunken bee
Out of the foxglove's door -
When butterflies - renounce their "drams"
I shall but drink the more!

Till seraphs swing their snowy hats
And saints - to windows run
To see the little Tippler
Leaning against the - sun.

In that case someone as volitile and thin skinned as you really should tone down the general and often incoherent horatory hectoring of others who could well be in be agreement with some of your points. Yer giving mad hermits a bad name here.

i take it your ranting into a mirror at this point.

lest you forget:

"Oh for fuck’s sakes Nasking, I’m sure your heart’s in the right place but don’t you try occasionally when the blood rushes to your head, having a bex and a nice lie down?"

sorry to have entered your turf Nabs & stepped on 'precious' toes by attempting to relate, entertain & take a few visitors down a nostalgic path...i will be sure not to 'dumb down' your show again...one can imagine how welcoming the mat must be you've left on the trapdoor in other threads? For now I'll leave you to combine discourse w/ the 'vicious arts'...to pull the lever on each visitor you see fit...during your waltz of the "natural rhythms".

Let's just say i've never cared for the 'lockstep' dance Nabs...and my sense of 'flow' has little to do w/yers obviously...

over the past few years i've watched this World take it itself over the edge & into the abyss because the majority are convinced by an Elite few & their Enablers that they can steady the wobble...watched the populace ridicule the Cassandras...& stand by gawking & feasting as the Truth Sayers were hunted down one by one...whilst far too many academics & the so called 'intelligentsia' wanked themselves into a fury, signifying bloody nothing. Those who were determined not to be fooled again found themselves running in circles biting their own tails...

Rather than heeding the words & experience of those who accepted its quivering, saw beyond the 'smoke & mirrors', had already gone where only Eagles dare...MOST decided to MOCK...& pleasure themselves...but a few of us opened our ears, did the research...& decided to relay the information of the Knowledgable Ones, past & present...listened to them, regardless of Class (despicable term)...or ability to articulate...we were nourished by their teachings, we gathered up what had been discovered like squirrels do chestnuts, cherished & analysed each aspect...then sometimes as Go-Betweens we translated the material & projected it outwards to make it more palatable for the readers/viewers...even added our own observations...& style in order to get points across, regardless of reputation...we weren't in this for fame or financial gain...this was about SAVING this freakin' Planet from tipping over the edge to Obscurity...

and eventually, thnx to the courage of a few visionary bloggers & their supporters the messages struck a chord w/ the public...& consequently I give Mark & a few others on here credit for focusing on some essential issues & bustin' a few myths in the process...as I do Tim Dunlop...

and as for the implied: "don't call us, we'll call you"...well, i never did like melons...or prats off their leash for that matter. But rice pudding, now that's a different matter altogether...;)

It was fun. Now, this local crackpot's got research to do.

Yeah well Hilker, the scratch post may think it's been in a fight but I doubt the cat does.

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

In that case someone as volitile and thin skinned as you really should tone down the general and often incoherent horatory hectoring of others who could well be in be agreement with some of your points. Yer giving mad hermits a bad name here.

& in turn purchased a telescope…thru which i could observe the goings on of the diverse beings that inhabited this Planet

Yeah, and I remember me mum busting my brother and I for using the telescope on the balcony to perve at the neighbours too.

I can assure you that raving on blogs about "scrutiny" and smashing the system ain't advancing your cause a whit. Not to say though that I'm not amused by your stream of consciousness (a word here that I use here about you without much respect for its ontological implications). I am amused, but I suspect not in the way you think you're engaging others.

Here, let me put all that in a way you might better grasp.

...who watchs the watchers of those that watch their watches...uncaring of the natural rhythms...the ticking and pulse of the biosphere that cradles us like unforgiving yet pliant chopsticks...who does not laugh like a gecko at those playing with shadow puppets in Plato's Cave...who think the world is watching..."those vast and trunkless comments"...the skin of a rice pudding is easily knocked off... do not stoop to tie your shoelaces in your neighbour's melon patch...

less about ‘arrogance’ & more about ’scrutiny’ old chap…"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

which gets me thinkin' beyond you Nabs (you seem a decent enuff fella in the long run & therefore i'd hate to think you'd mistake the following as a reference to your character)...anyhow, i had an odd dream the other night...

a memory from a possible past?:

as a boy i once owned a magnifying glass, i lent it to a neighbour who used it to burn insects…when i confronted him, accused him of brutality & asked for my glass back he replied: “I lost it at the Fun Park...in the Freak Show"…& w/ a cunning smile gave me the finger & made his way home. He moved soon after. I haven't seen him since.

Years later, I discovered he’d lied & had graduated to burning animals w/ my magnifying glass…particularly species that did not partake in carnivorous habits. Eventually he ended up in jail for some heinous crime.
which gets me thinkin’ beyond you Nabs (you seem a decent enuff fella in the long run & therefore i’d hate to think you’d mistake the following as a reference to your character)…anyhow, i had an odd dream the other night…

a memory from a possible past?:

as a boy i once owned a magnifying glass, i lent it to a neighbour who used it to burn insects…when i confronted him, accused him of brutality & asked for my glass back he replied: “I lost it at the Fun Park…in the Freak Show”…& w/ a cunning smile gave me the finger & made his way home. He moved soon after. I haven’t seen him since.

Years later, I discovered he’d lied & had graduated to burning animals w/ my magnifying glass…particularly species that did not partake in carnivorous habits. Eventually he ended up in jail for some heinous crime. From that day on I became determined not to lend others tools that could be utilised for destructive purposes…& in turn purchased a telescope…thru which i could observe the goings on of the diverse beings that inhabited this Planet…& read the signs in the night sky…& the ways of the sun…that gave me a wider perspective…but would only be useful as a weapon in the most extreme of cases…to defend myself in case of attack by wielding it as a club…or to observe the strategies of the Pack, their movements, behaviorisms, intended victims…so as to warn others…& empower.

let me focus on your mind for a mere second in trivial time and I shall find the crack in your veneer

Probably not a good idea to use the word "arrogance" just before such fatuous and pompous statement, Nasking old chap.

Nasking, I'd be careful if I were you. Nabakov might pull down his veneer and show you his crack, if you ask.

Play on.

The correct phrase is "game on".
Oh, and Leniad: your dream of cheap autonomous spy drones available to any supervillain is getting closer.

Oh for fuck’s sakes Nasking, I’m sure your heart’s in the right place but don’t you try occasionally when the blood rushes to your head, having a bex and a nice lie down?

Nab...if your heart was in the right place you'd learn not to make such fatuous & pompous remarks.

“Arrogance diminishes wisdom

let me focus on your mind for a mere second in trivial time and I shall find the crack in your veneer, and within the emboldening bereft of charity, scolded by love, polished by the impatience of your own tongue,
urgent orb, blasting for another stage, drained of light and cause, merely 'is'.

Play on.

KATZ - sorry, missed yours above when blathering to Mike(not)B. Kava was ruled a Prohibited Import under the Customs Act in 1989 but NEVER enforced in Sydney - go to any Indian spice store and you can get 200gms for a couple of bucks.
It WAS however, stopped at Port Palmerston (as Darwin was called within Customs for obvious reasons)so nobody bothered to send it there, previously freely available, and it had to be shipped overland from Sydney or Melbourne which raised the price.
As far as we could see, the AHA was ENTIRELY (with CLP backing - the NT gov at the time) behind the Commonwealth ban coz it meant the bungs weren't drinking enough piss.
Before Independence in Fiji, the uptight missionaries (the crazy amerikan methodists rather than the brits) succeeded in getting it banned (hah!)and all it did was increase the price (wotta surprise) in Suva and reduce the vitamin B12 intake of pregnant women who'd previously used it as a tonic. After Independence it was (rightly) consigned to the dustbin of colonial history.
Anyone wondering about kava, it tastes like shit but is a wonderful aid to pleasant reverie and can be bnought in any Indian shop in Newtown (Sydney).

Love the wide range on this blog/site - sorry, new to this Net thingy, just got a steam driven 4th hand PC on dial up but..wow! If we'd had this in the 60s...
Mark (not) B probably it's but don't imagine that Sydney isn't riddled with underground tunnels.
The MWSDB (now Sydney Water) used to run tours on some of the older tunnels and the dear old PMG, where i had my first job as a bicycle telegram (wot that?)boy has/had a huge network of RAIL beneath the city, can't imagine that it has been filled in, tho' who knows what modern bean counters think is rational.
I often used to put my bike on at Martin Place (sic!)and trundle along to Canterbury post office (in 1962 the furthest extent)before putting the thighs to work.
So yeh, probably shrub & shitface have asked for special arrangements but I can't imagine them in those tunnels -they were only about 5mts wide and I can't imagine they've been updated with a/c or similar.

A friend of mine recently visited a friend in an Aboriginal settlement in the Northern Terrotory.

My friend reported that the issue that is greatly exercising Aborigines is the little-publicised Federal Government ban on the importation of kava.

Apparently, kava is viewed as a suitable substitute for the more dangerous and disruptive alcohol. Community leaders are concerned that many will return to drinking, with unfortunate effects.

As far as I can see, this is the only reference to the issue in the newspapers. And in this Age article it is mentioned only in passing.
