My grandmother turned ninety on Saturday. At her party she told us of her approval of Clive Hamilton and Phillip Adams and her belief that Australia’s future ought to be Socialist.

She is too old to go into politics now, but all the same I am very proud of her.

My dad has, as he ages, become more and more of a lookalike for our PM (poor dad), just ten years older and frailer. If he was of a performing temperament, he could have made big bucks as an impersonator. I gain some quiet satisfaction at the thought of Dad wandering around making people do doubletakes and think about Howard’s age every time he’s out and about.
