THRID. Ah well, I had the glory last week.

I think it’s about time we invoked the great goddess JuliaZ in view of the forthcoming election. You know, just to make sure. She hasn’t failed us yet.

Rope in Buffy, Willow, and Xena just for good measure…

  5. 5 silkwormNo Gravatar

If Howard wins the election, I’m joining the Exclusive Brethren.

Ahoy me hearties! International talk like a pirate day is just off the starboard bow!

  8. 8 CKNo Gravatar

Sorry Ginger, but ITTLAPD has been vectored by Talk Like a Pilot Day on May 19 http://www.talklikeapilot.org/ Oscar Kilo?

  9. 9 CKNo Gravatar

Oh, and apropos of nothing, listening to the rugby coverage tonight one of the panel referred to Paris as “the international city of cafes.” F*** the Louvre, Monmartre, Notre Dame, Versailles etc etc etc. Good grief, the idiocy of commercial television.

Oh, now we’re onto Villiers Bretonneux! Rugby and dead diggers! How can you go wrong?

  10. 10 CKNo Gravatar

Good. Casual mention of Gallipoli. And larrikins! Plus wallabies and emotion and humble and World Cup and giving your life for Australia and French love us and Sharkie’s doing a great job in the scrum.

Overwhelmed with tears. Can’t continue …

  11. 11 j_p_zNo Gravatar

“ITTLAPD has been vectored by Talk Like a Pilot Day…”

    Heh heh.

Okay that does it, now I’m starting International Talk Like A Pine-Nut Day.

    ‘Eh, prego! Mamma mia! That’s-a nice-a, spicy, a-pesto a-sauce-a…’

  12. 12 CKNo Gravatar

I want International Talk Like A New Yorker Day. Hey you! Brooklyn!

  13. 13 mickNo Gravatar

One of mates from New Jersey had a lot of fun trying to teach me to say, “Ya wanna piece of this!”.

  14. 14 mickNo Gravatar

Oh, and he also taught me, “I got your f#ckin’ _____ right here!”.

  15. 15 CKNo Gravatar

Any of you motherfu**ers move, and I’ll execute every last motherfu**ing one of you!

  16. 16 CKNo Gravatar

Back on the rugby: Green and gold! Wattle! Drought! More diggers! Apparently Montpeliere is mad keen for Aussies (pron: Strayans)!

I don’t know anything about rugby, but this team sounds like absolute rubbish.

  17. 17 CKNo Gravatar

    They’re interviewing Strayans in Paris!

    1. Whadja miss bout Straya?
    2. Dja miss ya rum?
    3. Where ya from mate?
    4. Whadja miss bout Straya?

    6. Whadda French chicks think about Aussie blokes?

  18. 18 CKNo Gravatar

No, I think they’ve nailed it. If Wallabies get nowhere it will probably be down to bad calls by the Refs.

  19. 19 CKNo Gravatar

Somebody has “spectacular hair” and there appears to be some lose association with a hamburger. Interesting…

  20. 20 CKNo Gravatar

Oh no! They’re leaving! And yet they promise us “hours and hours of more interesting World Cup television.”

    I can’t wait.

  21. 21 mickNo Gravatar

Heh. Why are they showing this now? Kick off isn’t for another three hours. Methinks I have to get out of the office and to the pub very soon to get in the right mood for the game tonight.

I’m pretty sure they’re showing the “preview” now is so it can be shown live in all states, as atm there is Sports Tonight followed by Letterman.

  23. 23 Frank CalabreseNo Gravatar

Ahh, Bill Woods just mentioned that the Opening Ceremony will be on at 4am EST, which means it will be live in WA at 2am WST.

  24. 24 mickNo Gravatar

Well, I’m off in search of somewhere that serves Bundy and Coke. I’m afraid that might mean that I end up at a Walkabout pub and my coolness rating will take a hit.

  25. 25 CKNo Gravatar

Oh well mick & Frank, I think I was just liveblogging! It was great fun. Sorry I wasn’t doing it for the loss of the Weasles to PP earlier during AFL.

BTW Frank, sorry I haven’t contacted you. Working 7 days PW & not much time. If you’re anywhere near South Freo the Davilak would be useful on Fri, Sat, Sun after 5.00.

  26. 26 CKNo Gravatar

Not sure mick. It may have something to do with Gallipoli.

Q: How many New Yorkers does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: What am I, a fuckin’ information booth?

  28. 28 CKNo Gravatar

jpz, that was really funny. I gotta go to bed. Night all.

  29. 29 Paul BurnsNo Gravatar

    CK,
I’ve almost choked to death laughing at that last joke.

  30. 30 BerniceNo Gravatar

I know you’ve been waiting - BERNICE DOES THE APEC RALLY!!!!

Sorry but it took me far too long to construct it over in Berniceland & i aint got no wish to do it all again. Just drag your sorry posteriors over. Vicarious protesting. Another quality community service from Bernice - who says I don’t care?

  31. 31 OzNo Gravatar

The commercial media has done the worst beat up of the APEC protests. The difference between Seven’s coverage and the actual rally could not be further.

Also there was nothing about how the police arrested two people on the blacklist for being ‘in the exclusion zone’ only releasing them afterwards without charge because they were forced to admit they weren’t in the zone. I wonder how many of the arrests they made today will just result in people being released without charge.

SBS at least did an even handed job.

  32. 32 KimNo Gravatar

Speaking of which, the Great Goddess Julia Z and Rockwiz are back on tonight!

  33. 33 Frank CalabreseNo Gravatar

Ch 9 Perth’s coverage was pretty much the same.

But what do you expect from CH Stokes (7) who’s a major donor to the LIberal Party 500 Club :-)

  34. 34 TraxNo Gravatar

APEC.. What a waste of money… bring on the reality check.

  35. 35 suNo Gravatar

Yes it’s Miss World for pollies. Tenuous link.

  36. 36 joNo Gravatar

thrashed by the pies, tell me it aint so, pa

& you can liveblog any weasel loss CK..including next week’s….

    go cats…..sheesh.

  37. 37 CKNo Gravatar

Oh yes jo, the forthcoming Weasel humiliation at the hands of Collingwood should be excellent fun!

  38. 38 joNo Gravatar

CK - i’ll have regained my sense of historical proportion (ie. swans not winning) by next week and will look forward to barracking with eddie’s lot….fair dinkum bogans taking down uppity bogans (perth being uppity bogan HQ, in my book).

i’ve got my daughter’s soccer grand final at some unholy hour tomorrow morning…so until then, fab freo fan…i say again - go the handbaggers.

…….and cousins’ will have required alot of ice last night… some of it on his hammy.

Default position for Dockers supporters in case of inevitable 3rd quarter choke is, of course, South Melbourne. Well anybody who can beat the other team here, really.

Uppity bogan doesn’t quite capture it. Think of a team supported by Alexander Downer were he to live in Perth.

  40. 40 Frank CalabreseNo Gravatar

    CK,

Kerry Stokes is a supporter of John Howard and a member of the Liberal Party 500 Club, CH 7 Perth sponsor the West Coast Weasels - if the Weasels get knocked down by Eddie Everywhere’s mob, will this be an omen of the Election result ? :-)

Also, I compare Ben Cousins to Downer, both dimwitted fools.

  41. 41 CKNo Gravatar

Love it Frank. The omens are everywhere!

I look forward to the front-page story, centre-spread, and several sports pages at the back of Teh Waste telling us how the Pies achieved their magnificent victory. Same as today’s PP coverage, actually.

Nah, they’ll blame it on JIm McGinty for leading Neale Fong astray…., or even Alanah for stuffing the trains taking the Weasel Fans to Subi Oval along with Kobelkie for not allowing Subi Oval to be redevolped - in short it’s the State Govt’s Fault :-)

  43. 43 joNo Gravatar

re-thinking geelong…i was in melbourne for their 92/94 defeats at the hands of the weasels. maybe i should be putting money on the roos tomorrow..

wot.. there are *idiot children of the rural aristocracy in perth? i would have thought lang hancock’s evil spawn is closer to the mark.

    *PJK on Dolly.

Oh, and CARNA PIES!!!! What an absolutely glorious win over the scum from my home town. The local TV broadcast was delayed by about a quarter so listened to the call on ABC Radio and watched the delayed broadcast - talk about time shifting.

All the way this year boys…though with the usual Pies Fans qualifications of ‘if we don’t choke. stumble, wobble, if Nate’s hammies stay intact etc etc ad infinitum…

And here in Yuendumu the TWO local Magpies teams playing in the Finals in Alice Springs today will continue their usual September marches to glory…see and for REAL footballs with NO bogans…

  47. 47 FDBNo Gravatar

    WTF?

An Wet Toast bashing thread on LP? YAY!!!

I lent a mate my projector for Friday’s game and his 30th birthday party, then had to pretend to be upset when his team got beaten. The urge to sing that godawful Power song was nearly irresistible.

Go Dockers! [next year the year after that somewhere, over the rainbow.

  48. 48 FDBNo Gravatar

Bob G - any idea if that’s going to be on TV again? In Melbourne?

  49. 49 Bob GosfordNo Gravatar

FDB - no idea - I missed the original broadcasts on the ABC’s Message Stick on the box but have a copy from Warlpiri Media, who should/may be able to sell you a copy (see link at previous post)…otherwise petition the ABC to replay it during mainstream viewing time…I didn’t see any promos for it - one reason I missed it on the box

APEC….$180 million in security…..to watch this!
I watched in disgust as a 92 year old man was forced (after consultation by himself and his family with the police for them to allow him through their line) to walk up approximately 15 stairs into the park, down a steep grass slope and then to be helped down off the park wall by his family just so he could exit the park. This enabled him to be just metres from where he originally was!

Nielsen/Herald poll has been leaked, at the smh:

Labor’s two-party preferred vote rose two points to 57 per cent. The Coalition fell 2 points to 43 per cent. [compared with 55-45 last month]

Liberal doses of ratsack that keep piling up–what a joy to behold. As Lenore Nicklin said on Insiders this morning, this is no joke by potential voters, it’s deadly serious.

(And too late for Howard to step down, as it should be, we need and crave public humiliation of Team Rodent!)

Careful Peter. Any discussion of politics on this thread and Kim The Merciless will be down on you like a ton of bricks.

  54. 54 MarkNo Gravatar

Or, in her absence, I’ll do it with just a bit of brick dust! Peter, please post the (uplifting and toast-worthy) result of the Nielsen poll to the election open thread!

When Howard leaves the top job in a few weeks time, will he convert to Catholicism like Blair?

  56. 56 boredinHKNo Gravatar

One last kick from the corpse of the current government.

Abdel Bari Atwan banned from visiting Australia. He had been invited to Brisbane.
