I was a bit worn out still yesterday after my trip to Sydney, so this is a day late! Since we don’t live by politix alone (I sincerely hope), what did people get up to this weekend? Join in, share some tales, regulars and lurkers all!

On Saturday, my beloved and I cleaned our living room, and then watched Torchwood. On Sunday, more Torchwood and when that ran out, some Doctor Who for more Captain Jack goodness.
The tautological hotel (third pic)is a great for a pint. It can be busy but catch it on an off hour on a lazy afternoon, a wonderful place for a pint or two.
Weekend was Saturday finding the cricket ground more or less underwater so no game and Sunday being a dad. Which is still pretty cool after 11 months. It gets better actually as you go along.
There can never be enough Cap’n Jack goodness in a single weekend!
Worked on an Australia Research Council grant night and day all weekend, while also trying looking after my daugher solo.
Ms LE away enjoying herself - and fair enough too after my recent trip away.
Let me just say: solo parents, I salute you.
Supervised a weekend sleepover of 5 squealing tweens.
(Pity the hapless huntsman spider who happened to wander into their bedroom at 2 am and the mother forced to locate and amongst the shoes, pillows, bean bags, etc etc)
I played Lady Macbeth and outed the spots from the silver. Plays havoc with the hands but much more satisfying than housework since the silver stays clean for at least six months.
Last shot is the best - very Sydney.
As an aside - anybody have any travel trips for Russia?

Learn the alphabet. It’s not as hard as it looks, and it will make a lot of things easier. For instance, the Moscow Metro is fabulous, if you spend any time in the city you will prob be on it a fair bit, and being able to sound out the station names is a great help.
Sunday: approximately 11.00 - start reading book (The Escapement, the conclusion to KJ Parker’s Engineer trilogy - damn good stuff).
1.00 - go to supermarket to get lactose-free milk before it all goes.
2.00 - back to book.
6.30 - finish book. Cook. Watch campy Robin Hood and other crap. Eventually go to bed.
A good day.
We (my partner and I) took one of the guinea pigs to a new vet. It turns out she has ovarian cysts that are causing hormonal imbalance and hair loss, and eventually they will cause her pain and probably kill her, so she’s going in for surgery to remove them. I would have refused to do this, but this is the first time I’ve consulted a vet in Sydney who has my full confidence in dealing with rodents. The prognosis is very good, and the cavy in question should live to a ripe old age if given the surgery, so we went ahead and booked her in.
On Saturday night we went to a cocktail party at a friends’ apartment, sipped martinis, smoked cigars and generally behaved in a very civilized manner. I talked to my sister’s new boyfriend for the first time, which was an experience, and learned quite a bit about the friends of friends that I never knew or suspected. I was also treated by a young lady to a long exposition on the benefits of Billy Blanks’ exercise DVDs.
Sunday morning was for cleaning, and the afternoon for general relaxation.
Weekend. Spent most of it reading Christopher Tyerman’s God’s War. A New History of the Crusades. Not finished it yet. A guilty pleasure as 1) I have a book to review by 1 March; 2) it has absolutely nothing to do with my current research intertests of 18C Britain and Australia or the American Revolution.First time I’ve gone back to the Crusades/Middle Ages since my Honours year. Quite enjoying it and I suspect he has some new insights, but I am no longer up to date enough in the field to be sure.Monday made arrangerments by phone to be picked up and taken into town tomorrow to Armidale Town Hall, 8.30 am for Apology screening.Did some work on reading for book review.
