Since we don’t live by politix alone (I sincerely hope), what did people get up to this weekend? Join in, share some tales, regulars and lurkers all!
I went to the Powerhouse today for LiveSpark! featuring that excellent band Coda. I’m uploading a video and will post some photos when it finally makes it on to google, so more about that later.
But here’s to you all! And may your t-shirts carry obscure situationist mottos…

Mardi Gras, cricket and swimming in the Harbour – a great weekend, especially Sachin Tendulkar’s winning century.
They had the cricket on tonight at the Indian restaurant I went to for dinner after the gig at the Powerhouse!
Hunt out with my kid, read him spoooky mystery books, watched Labyrinth, hung an ocean-themed wallpaper border, read magazines, failed to catch up on my overflowing blog subs, played Scrabulous.
Im getting into BBQ marinades. Its a breakthrough.
Saw the Sidney Nolan exhibition at Ian Potter Gallery, on a beautiful Melbourne day. Top shelf!
My fave has always been Arabian Tree – coverwork to the famous Angry Penguins Ern Malley hoax edition. http://jacketmagazine.com/17/px/cover.jpg
Top t-shirt, Mark. I really like ‘n’existerait pas’ — all those Matric French lessons about tenses are coming back to me.
I spent a big chunk of today at Adelaide Writers’ Week, hearing Brian Matthews (whose biography of Manning Clark has just been delivered to the publishers) give a hilarious opening address, and then William McInnes doing an equally hilarious ‘Meet the Author’ session. And he looks even better than he does on the screen. Not that I’m shallow or anything.
French is very good for tense choice, Dr Cat! I can’t really claim credit for the shirt though – it was a birthday present from a friend.
Flew back to the UK from Nairobi… spent the weekend sleeping, having a few pints, playing some records.
I worked, played World of Warcraft and read Carl Wilson’s “Céline Dion’s Let’s Talk About Love: A Journey to the End of Taste.” If I can find a way to explain how great it is, I might blog it today, or even if I can’t. The short version is: everyone should read it. A good quick description is here, from Alex Ross.
After a somewhat sad last gig with a disbanding band on Friday, I played my first gig with a new band after making an album with them over summer. Now firing up for a bit of a promo tour round the continent in the next couple of months.
Out with the old, in with the new I guess.
Also, I’ve discovered myself to be exactly the sort of band member I most hate when I’m mixing live – a singing drummer who needs shiteloads of foldback. I’m constantly apologising. Too meek. I’ll never be a proper rock star.
Neighbour came in on Saturday morning to ring round for cigarettes. She is presently looking after 15 kids. Couldn’t help her because I am in a non-smoking phase at the moment. Did some note-taking from an article by Jack P. Greene on Preconditions for American Revolution. Currently researching material for prologue 1762-1770 and ch. 1 from 1`770 to just before Battle of Bunker Hill. About 4 1st Fleeters involved, including Hunter, Collins and Ross. Blogged a bit. Started reading Richard L. Bushman’s From Puritan to Yankee. Character and Social Order in Connecticut, 1690-1765. Night, watched Bill, and very late at night, Exodus. Hadn’t seen it since 1960s. Had forgot what a terrible movie it was.
Sunday – Insiders – the terrible Piers Ackerman. Blogge4d on LP, read Bushman. Finished note-taking on Greene article. Watched ABC TV. Jekyll was an interesting take on Stevenson.
