Silkworm,
The accurate historical description is anti-Labor, and has been since Federation. Though, with the emergence of the Greens/Democrats it has become somewhat inaccurate. It works up til about 1975 as a useful shorthand, especially when you consider the plethora of Conservative Parties between 1901-1949.
With this anti-left business, I suppose they're trying to include the Greens, Democrats, Socialist Alliance aqnd variety of smaller left wing parties who preference Labor over the Liberals, but even that doesn't work as the Socialist Equality Party (like the Democrats)put out a split ticket, even with some-one as bad as Howard. And, IMO, they're more to the Left than Socialist Alliance.
So, be buggered if I know.

<blockquote>I received the following email from a Liberal Party source:

“Malcolm would have been able to tell straight away that you’re a writer and left-leaning!"</blockquote>

The Libs seem to be identifying themselves as "anti-left". It would be interesting to have Malcolm or the Lib source specify what they meant exactly by "left-leaning". That might give us a description of what Lib policy is.
