David #4. Great link. I would have liked it if it were the knitting patterns for the klein bottle beanie instead of the beanies themselves being for sale. Cos although I'm not interested in crocheting a hyperbolic plane I would like to give knitting a klein bottle a go. ( I once attended a lecture where I was told that you can weave your own klein bottle using a single thread) Although that was a cool ad especially if you want a beanie hand knitted by a team that includes some grannies and an ex librarian!

I never argue with cakes but if they are self-defeating so much the better, saves me the bother of hunting 'em down with bow and arrow.

Mick, Tigtog made a fabulous joke on CIB, calling a particularly self-defeating and tortological argument a "Klein bottle" argument.

3d renderings of Klein bottles look rather like the bottles given to boys in hospital so that they can take a leak. Never go to a hospital that inhabits more than 3 dimensions.

Minor correction DeeCee, I believe the words should be sung to the tune of "Men of Harlech". Otherwise, thanks for the memories ;-)

If my memory serves me correctly the topologicalishness arises from the creatures that have <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbolic_space" rel="nofollow">hyperbolic space</a> as a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_cover#Universal_covers" rel="nofollow">universal cover</a> are different to the creatures that have flat, Euclidean space as a universal cover.

'One side fits all' Hee.

The best resource for Maths and Fibre arts (mostly knitting) is Sarah-marie Belcastro's Toroidal Snark: http://www.toroidalsnark.net/mathknit.html

That's pretty cool. There's also someone marketing Klein bottle beanies http://www.kleinbottle.com/klein_bottle_hats.htm if you're interested.

Or (to the tune of British Grenadiers)...

....Ceilings that are hyperbolic
These are for the alcoholic
Lying on the floor.

Vodka for the arty. Gin to make you hearty
Lemonade was only made for drinking when your mother's at the party.
Steer very clear of homemade beer And anything that isn't label'd clear
You have nothing else to feee - ar ...

UQ Songbook for the Regatta "Aquatic Carnival" "(chunder buckets provided free)"[sic] 1960

Cheez, fancy all those GenY young things binge drinking, eh?

PS Why can't I remember what I did with the TV control stick Wed night?
