Ah, the obscurity of some of these cross-breeds. The designer dogs were heavily promoted on Burke’s Backyard a few years ago as being perfect for the suburban family. Hence, their popularity. They were promoted, I believe, because Burke owns the Dr Doolittle pet shop chain which started selling them.

Trouble is a lot of them have health and temperament problems due to indiscriminate breeding.

I hereby condemn Don Burke for stuffing up totally good breeds of dogs. Apologies ahead of time to people who own and love them. I know there’s lots of gooduns as well. But they are a cynical creation.

Fine, I condemn myself in advance for even knowing this, but a whoodle is a cross between a soft-coated wheaten terrier and a poodle.

About five of my daughter’s soccer team bring their poodle-hybrid dogs and other little fluffy wuffy dogs to the park for both training and the games. And I now notice them everywhere. Some of the puppies rate off the board for cute, but I’m not a small lap dog girl.

I’m looking forward to not being a companion pet owner after multiple decades, am currently caring for the 16 y.o heeler x in her geriatric phase. And my last feline went underground a few years ago also aged 16. I think it’s the feeding regularly bit that’s done it.

I condemn myself for having a dog, for cleaning up it’s poo, for having a kid who plays soccer in public parks with um, soccer fields and for nagging errant dog owners who don’t clean up their own hound’s excrement. Shorter, entirely incapable of having one fixed partisan position and sticking with it. I also condemn myself for living in the eastern suburbs where fluffy-wuffy doggie-woggies run riot. (Labradoodles, poochons, spoodles, whoodles and pomapoos.)

OTOH, I commend myself for having got a free chocolate off old Mr Pulkownik at his shop in the early 70’s. Possibly, the only decent chocolate made in Australia at that time – they later became widely known as Paddington Chocolates – the first ones in the coloured cellophane wrapping. No idea if the owners have kept up the quality in more recent times.

And I loudly condemn the AFL (line up) for their ongoing interference in the fixture whereby we are playing Wet Toast again tonight. Teams no longer all play each other once before the ‘fix’ part of the fixture kicked in. You may or may not recall Aussie Rules’ favourite pugilist laying out West Coast’s Brent Staker and receiving 8 weeks. Big Bad Barry is still suspended.
