Marvellous that!
Fab, TT, thanks for posting that. I was watching the game live when Steve Waugh took that last catch and I nearly had a heart attack.
Sigh. They don’t make ‘em like they used to.
Moderated!
Please tell me it wasn’t the former Pakistan captain’s name.
Anything Ben Cousins, Sam Newman or Wayne Carey do is pretty classic in my book.
2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups. Watching our local Aussie Rules team win two premierships in a row (when I was young and actually cared about that kind of thing). Personal favourite sporting moment – playing for Australia against New Zealand.
“Personal favourite sporting moment – playing for Australia against New Zealand.”
You’re Dean Jones?
ha ha ha. no. I’m pretty sure his highlight would be his double century in Chennai.
DR – I suppose that depends on your definition of ‘classic’. My tipping comp manager’s latest Benny Kizons screed (after the footy show last night):
“That dude is the Tom Cruise of the AFL – a smug sociopath with no shame and a black soul.”
Understand if you want to stay mum DJ, but
sport obsessedenquiring minds want to know!TAGS!!! Gah!
If you simply must know then – this is where I was.
So, I’m not a famous sports person outing themselves on LP!
Meh, Link fail
FDB – it’s just a cynical take on the idea that sports is dead, or at least just a colourful version of celebrity. Perhaps it was ever thus.
Is this dj the famous Declan J***, who represented Australia in the World Cup of McDonalds pickle racing in Sydney, 2000? You are a true sporting legend, sir. Those sheep shaggers couldn’t pretend to know how to fling a pickle onto a window with that kind of finesse.
Well we’re as shit as each other at HTML, while you kick my arse at touch rugby.
I concede.
Though to be devastatingly honest, I did prefer the mystery.
*insert inappropriate male comedian joke about mystery here*
Deano’s big moment was getting a bickie tin of big bickies off Biggy Rat Malik.
Catches No.1 (Swaugh) and No.2 (Tubby) would also be my No.1 and No.2, or No.2 and No.1. Both were at the MCG, but the MCG’s large capacity meant that it was never a sell-out so we here in Melb only got to see the first two hours. That’s when f**ken Bill would issue his odious f**ken invitation: “Melbourne viewers leave us now, so come down to the MCG.” Bastard! I never saw them live on telly.
Fortunately Nine now shows MCG games live and in full.
When Tony Greig congratulated fellow South African Kepler Wessels after a one-day cricket victory as a “good Christian boy”. Dutch Reformed Church, of course!
What? One day cricket, 20/20, now they’ve mad it look (and sound) like AFL. Oh for the olden days, where absolutely. fuckall. happened for hours, possibly days. And the only sound bar a polite muted roar when something (occasionally) did happen, was the clink of teacups and the odd snore as some old buffer in the stands succumbed to the torpor.
It’s a travesty.
Oh, come on! All this back and forth and not one single mention of Buddy Franklin’s seven goals in the First Elimination Final against Adelaide, including the winning goal from outside 50 less than ten seconds before the final siren? For shame.
