Friday night music

In honour of World Youth Day (doubt any “youth” read this blog, but what the hell), and just because a little music on a Friday night is nice, here’s a clip of Jennifer Warnes singing “The Song of Bernadette” from her wonderful Famous Blue Raincoat album.

Oh thanks for that, D, one of my favourites.(now going round in my head and I haven’t even listened to it yet). She has a spectacular voice, no?

She actually saw the “Queen of Heaven” 18 times. Interesting.

Such a beautiful voice, Caroline. No need for American Idol style vocal gymnastics from Jennifer. Just the real deal.

Thanks for that link. It’s an interesting story, which was made into a highly-romantisised film.

    I don’t think Woulfe shares the love….;)

A song for the come down…these things can be such a let down…particularly after seeing the priest rubbin’ furiously in the shower wearin’ an Aussie flag eatin’ by USA flag swimsuit:

    Stop the superstition peddling.

I can assure you Silkworm that I don’t believe in no higher power, but I do believe that spirituality can inspire things of beauty.

Off-topic but about music, I’ve just downloaded Nina Simone’s version of Strange Fruit onto my iPod.

That is a singularly good choice, Darlene. A bit gooey, but very good nonetheless. Like chocolate.

High Priests & Empire Enablers can be demanding…when the caves call to your friends stories to be made myth, almost anything can happen when envy becomes the path…in the sun.

It’s not the same song, silk, obviously. That Tops song is rather cheesy.

Mmmmm, chocolate. It’s a very pretty song. For those who don’t know, it comes off the album where she does Leonard C stuff. Leonard sings along on “Joan of Arc”.

Thanks for that great Archie Roach link, nasking. Good stuff. There was good doco on SBS tonight discussing these issues. Was immensely sad.

Aw, shucks, that was nice. :)
Now if I could just find the link to the new painting of Our Lady of the Southern Cress, all wreathed in unbloodied wattle …

The Miracle of Fatima was a better movie. Loved Gilbert Roland.

No probs Darlene…indeed, it is a sad situation. The collision of cultures can bring much suffering, along w/ some benefits. But when the mighty in the religious, political, business & military camps combine to solve problems, so often we see intentional & accidental negligence combined w/ ‘big stick’ & profiteering approaches, and insanity can breed at the expense of the unaware.

So many Aboriginal tribes & individuals have much to show the so called “civilised” when it comes to surviving in a capricious environment that will treat you harshly if you don’t understand its idiosyncrasies, connectivity & uniqueness.

Adaptability is about more than using a can of bug killer…and constructing a hothouse as a home…and gathering the children of the battered-wise in propaganda sheds…and teaching the walkers to stand still & tremble the roots out of themselves…and demanding they work hard at learning to love fear & loathing & greed.

Harmony has its place…but too often it has tragically abandoned the life of the dispossessed.

At least some know enuff, feel enuff to say “sorry” & in doing so bring a shaft of LIGHT back into the tormented mind of the LOST, traumatised, embittered & confused…dispossessed.

The winds speak of THE HEALING…if you listen closely.
