Dataceptionist (and anyone else) - be sure to keep the paper scraps with pictures, and write the answer on the back of each. It is fucking hilarious to go back over them much later and try to work out what the hell was going on.

My entrepreneurial side sees potential here for a T-shirt range, featruing some of my friends' more substance-fuelled efforts.

Played a hilarious game of Pictionary.
With choice guessed yelled out (seemingly) victoriously such as
"Death Shark!" (Killer Whale)
and "Duck Dog!" (meant to be a Rhino)

Good times.

Went to Sydney over the weekend for non-WYD reasons, yet managed to suffer the irritating effects of many wandering tourists.

Did have fun pondering whether they'd all got the message from on high that the required outfit for pilgrim'ing is to wear a flag draped over your backpack, to look something like a superhero's cape. 'Twas all the rage.

Also had fun mocking the many many people lined up at the Apple store trying to get their iphones. Silly people. Go to a smaller shop with no waiting! But no, there they were, all kitted out with camping chairs and magazines to while away the hours.

Also reminded myself why I don't like drinking in Sydney - damn overcharging for a view, and an inability to understand that people wanting coffee and wine in the same location is not actually a sin. Grr.

Saturday: Rode on miniature steam trains with family and friends, picnic lunch, etc. Enjoyed watching Silent Witness and reading Mansfield Park (in series, not parallel). Sunday: Church, lunch, celebrated my Dad's 88th birthday with cake (made by me) at his place. Stayed over for tea of very nice takeaway Indian (Mand's in Eastwood, for the Sydneysiders) and to introduce Dad to the new Dr Who. He already likes Catherine Tate. Finished Mansfield Park. Virtual life: Wondered how a parent can get to the point where a six-year-old's threat to cry actually succeeds. Took me ages to compose a return e-mail; tried to work out underlying assumptions of such parenting. Baffled. Maybe some hospitals remove the mother's guts along with the placenta?

Started off the weekend by finishing the Letters of John and Abigail Adams, then LP-ing, transcribing primary source notes to my card system,reading Gotdon S, Wood's The Creation of the American Republic -quite hard going, and disappointingly not a lot in it relevant to my reserarch area.
Downloading from Bitorrent the HBO Series John Adams Series Parts 1-5. Due to idiocxy on my part will have to download episodes 6-7 separately. David Rubie is helping me from afar (Over 52% now, David, and I think its going faster.)They're raving about it on the American Revolution blog, and have been for a couple of months now.(Have to work out how to re-activate my Google account so I can comment there.)
Watched The Bill etc, Saturday night.
Sunday was much the same. except I went mad surfing various book sites, as mentioned on Saturday Salon. Advice from fellow Lp-ers invaluable. Again, thanks to you all. More note-taking.
Sunday night, watched Dr. Who. Will some schoolkids now get the wrong idea about why Pompeii happened? :)
Friend from next door came over to use the net. After that, watched doco on Pope = the Grand Inquisitor. Rhen, Demolition Man. Surfed the net some more, did't get to bed till 2.30 am.

Lovely weather this weekend. Spent it cleaning up the garden, picking up what seemed like an endless amount of offcuts from building projects and putting it through the drop saw to feed into the wood heater. Even cleaned up the rubbish under the house and noted that (finally) it's dry under there after having to repair the drains a couple of months ago. Also gratifying: lack of visible rodent activity after big garden cleanup of the neighbours place. Haven't seen one since November. Coincidence? You decide.

On the "bad" side of the ledger, Bruno the Alfa 164 has blown his forward clutch leaving me with some expensive and unfortunate decisions. Toying with the idea of importing a manual gearbox and associated gubbins for him to turn him into a replica of this, boy racer wing and scary black wheels and all. Just for fun.

Tour de France drinking games:
for each Australian flag you spot
for every piece of historical trivia
every time some pudgy bastard runs with the bikes on a climb.
every time Paul Sherwen says "...the front of the main field" (good way to polish off a full bottle of cognac) etc.

Finally tamed the interface between a KP3 Kaoss Pad and a theremin, despite a large butch ginger cat caught furry-handed chewing on a page of key settings, and then celebrated with numerous Kir Royales and a decent curry while watching "Dellamorte Dellamore”. As you do.

I took a lopper, secateurs, and a power-tenon saw to a very old, very vicious and very prolific beauganvillia and gave it a significant haircut

Human 1 : Tree 0

Although it did inflict some significant pain and damage on me.

Victorious:
a) beat the queues at Bar Italia for coffee;
b) partner's team won 8.6.54 to 7.11.53;
c) can still kick a football fifty metres if I try.
Defeated:
a) never did quite go on the bike ride I promised myself;
b) Swans failed to beat the perfidious Orthorn Orcs;
c) heard and felt an ominous click in my knee.
Now, to stretching and Dencorub.

I too have been to the movies: went to see Mamma Mia, which I adored (mostly), although I think that might be generational. I know Margaret Pomeranz didn't like it, but I think she may have been making a category mistake. Look out for the mashed-up Titanic/Priscilla bit of hommage, the Greek chorus, and Colin Firth reprising the wet white shirt.

Also, Colin Firth can sing! (But Pierce Brosnan can't.)

Yesterday we took the kiddies to the local snow capped mountains, (Barrington Tops) so they could see snow for the first time. Three hour drive through dusty farms, but it was worth it to witness their sheer excitement. Today we were all tired, so we pottered around the house and the net and did some cleaning, coped with the joy of tired children, but yesterday's adventure was well and truly worth it.
