Dusting down the information architecture

If, over the next day or so, you notice categories disappearing from the list in the sidebararchives, please be assured that no nefarious memory-holing is going on. Our ever-proliferating categories are causing us a bit of concern as to their navigational unwieldiness, so many of the highly-specific categories are in the process of being converted to “tags” instead.

Folks will be able to browse our tags on the Archive page in the sidebar, and they will help focus the search engine even more directly on to the appropriate posts. The aim is that the category listing on the archive page should be more like the chapter headings or subject listings, while the tags will act as more of an index of the most commonly discussed specifics.

All right then. As you were.
