I forget who first compared the breathless expectation that the News Limited meejah and the Liberal party are indulging in over Peter Costello’s non-decision making to Kremlinology, but in the wake of the thousands of words wasted on idle speculation and the interpretation of signs from the Great Pretender last weekend, this weekend we get… thousands of words wasted, etc.
Hint to Liberals: Your problems are much deeper than leadership. You need to do a lot more in opposition than “defend the Howard record”, particularly when doing so ties you in knots so tangled that… well, consider Joe Hockey last night. You need to realise that if Costello becomes leader, he will have to display more “economic credibility” than “hey! wasn’t it the good old days when I was Treasurer?” – the configuration of economic issues is different and the world has moved on. And in the process your messiah has been reinforcing his reputation for indecision and indulging his enormous ego and sense of entitlement. And, guess what, if you change leadership, it won’t be the end of your leadership troubles.
Oh, and John Howard is unlikely to go away either. He’s been out and about getting decorated by the Governor-General, announcing that he’s writing his own memoirs (to put $weetie back in his box?) and insisting that failing to step down as leader was a sign of courage. Be very interesting to see how he’d respond if Costello did become leader, and might there not be a bit of a hole in the apparent Costello strategy of saying – hey, look, we’ve gone back to the best of the wonderful Howard years?
What’s Brendan up to in the meantime? Well, he intends to keep on truckin’… And listen to a bit of Slim Dusty. Unbelievable.
So the choice is the Ivan-Milat redux Brendon or the savage-journey up David Frosts arsehole-redux Peter or hard-Mal Turdbull?

Joe seemed to be talking in circles and not at all convincing. Offered no solutions, just name calling, pretty negative and unappealing.
People will be mightily disappointed in Costello’s performance if he became Leader. He has never been a good performer in front of the camera his reputation resting totally on snippets form QT and the global boom. When Howard made him co-leader during the last election campaign Costello was insipid.
Really lookin’ forward to Brendan’s non-stop truck-stop tour. I wonder if he’ll take one of his guitars along so he can accompany the Slim Dusty in the truck cab?

I think someone should really be capturing Brendan’s adventures and uploading them to YouTube. Perhaps this could be the opportunity for the Liberals to really get into web 2.0?
What square kilometres of newsprint, hours of broadcast and terabytes of webspace have been devoted to this insipid little poseur? When will News hacks stop fawning over his every dribbled leak? Soooo sick of the Custard Man!
