The weekend was far too exciting for me. Got out of hospital on Friday and wasn't home two hours when a friend turned up with a new larger monitor for my computer. Free. He thought the old one was bad for my eyes. Arranged for a computer whiz mate of his to come and see me on Sunday, but more of that later.
Up all night checking out Amazon. Finally bought a $212 book (incl postage) British primary source, 2 vols,on life in Connecticut, New York etc.
Saturday spent the day catching up on e-mails, blogs etc. Settled down for a quiet night's TV.No chance. Half way through the Bill, two of my Aboriginal women neighbours were banging on my door and window, 1. escaping a domestic 2. hiding from the cops. 3 something else I didn't quite get. They'd stayed sitting in the dark with the curtains drawn for about half an hour, pretty drunk, and drinking Bundy and Coke. I still don't know what it was all about.
But wait, there's more. The weekend's only half way through. Sunday morning computer whiz turns up. Seems he's been one of my neighbours a few flats up for years. Cleaned my computer, installed new security systems, defragged, put in a firewall, etc.
Later in the day, a very drunk Aboriginal woman friend turned up, wanting to make a phone call. I laid down the law how I don't like drunk people in my house on case they spill grog on my books, told her to get out and come back when she was sober.
But more is yet to come. Early Sunday night come down with severe gastro-enteritis all night and Monday morning. Put myself in hospital this morning, but by about now was starting to finally feel better, so caught a cab home.
Believe me, these last few winter bugs in Armidale are killers.

Went to see Keating The Musical for the second time, but was slightly disappointed that the 'alternate performer' was playing Keating.

However, I will never ever forget the sight of Alexander Downer in drag 'molesting' my wife in front of a packed theatre. I got a bit of a feel as well, but Alex is obviously more of a hetro guy!
That'll teach us to get front row seats.

After long boring practice session for Royal Show dog obedience demo drove to Bridgewater to trace out last leg of Pioneer Womens Trail. Couldn't find it (ho did see it at end of afternoon. Still some nice walking, wattle in full bloom, plenty other flowers blooming and heard kookaburras!

Relaxed with bottle LaChouffe (spiced Belg Ale) and cooked a roast leg of pork, yummie it was, with plenty pear butter on it.

Long boring pub lunch with in-laws cancelled. Phew! Took dogs and boy to Dog Obedience (why aren't there boy obedience classes?), mowed the lawn, blogged some, failed to do the complete house clean that I always tell myself I'll do. Now the embarassing first auditions of OIDOL are on!

I went down to Kippax Sports Field to watch son-in-law play for West Belconnen against Woden Rams (Rugby League). Wests won 38-30 after being behind 24-8 at half time. Son-in-law scored 2 very good tries. Grandson not very impressed and granddaughter slept through most of the game. Daughter was hoping it would be hubby's last game but the win means he'll put on the boots at least one more time.

We went to Telstra Dome and watched sport's real hero, Robert Harvey whose 21 year AFL career with St.Kilda was celebrated today. He played like a bag full of gold medalists. One of the best. Didn't get to see him on the ABC News because it was from Sydney. Hope that's not a regular feature of Sunday.

daggett at 8, please post such links on the open Saturday Salon thread in future. And we would like people who want to pimp posts on their own blogs to summarise them, and write it as if it's a comment, not just link.

Worked flat out on finishing the thesis until about 10.15pm last night when I realised I was feeling very sick. I spent this morning working on the conclusion and the final chapter, but got to a point where I couldn't go on feeling this way. I don't know how I'm going to get it finished in time now. I think this bug is here to stay for a while.

Spent the day sanding and danish oiling a lovely old jarrah dining tanble the other half got off EBay for a ridiculously low price. Once i got rid of the estapol (i hate that stuff worse than JWH) with a 40 grit belt and then progresivley worked down to 400 wet and dry, it came up really well.

Couldnt get away from politics completley though.

Was wondering. If interest rates start to fall next month how does this affect the Libs narrative on economic management?? Rates were already falling when JWH and Cossie took over in 96. Rates started to rise in 02 under Cossie's atewardship and kept going for a couple of rounds after Rudd won in Nov 07. Really, allowing for lag, those rises this year have to be laid at the feet of Cossie even though the Libs have tried hard to blame Rudd and Swan.

Just when its getting to the point when people will start credit macro-economic goings on, good or bad, to Rudd and Swan, looks like rates have peaked and will start heading down. Oops, not the scarey thing that the Libs need to happen is it? Surely this means that Cossie will finally bow out rather than try a comeback?

Apologies, if this sesm to go against the grain of <strong>Lazy Sunday</strong>, but I thought, especially given the urgency the following article by myself may be of interest:

<strong><a href="http://candobetter.org/node/742" rel="nofollow">NSW electricity privatisation can be stopped!</a></strong>

NSW Premier Morris Iemma has seized upon a limited and deficient
Auditor-General's <a href="http://www.audit.nsw.gov.au/publications/reports/special_reviews/pdf/oversight_of_electricity_industry_restructuring.pdf" rel="nofollow">report</a>
(pdf, 354K) as grounds to proceed with electricity privatisation and plans to
rush through the legislation next week.

However, the sale has been consistently and overwhelmingly opposed by the NSW

Since my wonderful husband (who is a superb cook) is sick in bed, and as I can't cook to save myself, but since I have a science degree and can follow a recipe: I'm trolling the intertubes for a recipe to make something special to cheer him up.

I've decided on Macadamia-crusted Rack of Lamb with a dried cherry and port reduction served with roast kumera.

I have all the components, and am compiling the best bits out of several recipes.

It will either be magnificent, or a complete and utter disaster.

well, we had a picnic in newfarm park, i mixed the polish vodka "apple cake" drink a bit too strong, so got drunk very quickly, and then continued the thing on into the evening; switching for finnish vodka to finish the night off.

today i am struggling to get through my weekend quote of research reading.
