Super slow-mo is overrated.
Check out Vincent Laforet’s overhead shots from the 10m platform. If you’re hoping to reproduce something like that on your next trip to the pool, Laforet has a photoessay on his gear here. Then check out the amazing array of remote cameras for the 100m final here.

Oh yes - we watched Matthew Mitcham win the mens’ 10m platform - doesn’t he look like David Wenham?! Hubba hubba! How much do you bet he’ll be known as Diver Dan after this (if he isn’t already?)
I enjoy diving from heights, but 10 m is bit much for me!
Diver Dan only amongst some men, Helen. He did brilliantly to break the Chinese stranglehold but I fear for his future in other respects.
He’s an interesting sounding guy. I think he looks a lot like Ian Thorpe.
Very interesting to note that Seven News tonight featured Matthew Mitcham’s partner Lachlan without much fuss or comment about his being a ‘gay athlete’.
Terry, yes, I noticed that too. What a contrast to poor Greg Louganis.
He seemed like a really nice boy too!
Yes, some like to make the fuss.
Now there’s an marketing angle for the AIS.
“Are you talented? Determined to win? Yet a little bit special? The Australian Institute of Sport welcomes you. We don’t care who you love and how*. As long as you win Gold! Gold! Gold! for Australia!
*Offer void for those only winning Bronze or just qualifying.
Fucking great photos by the way. A brilliant insight into the strain and effort that makes it look so effortless for the spectators.
“He did brilliantly to break the Chinese stranglehold but I fear for his future in other respects.”
So he’s a pretty good diver but as a gay, just not up to scratch? When WILL we find someone to break that Chinese pole-smoking stranglehold?!?
Indeed Nabs - it’s quite the standout series from this Olympics as far as I’m concerned. Laforet’s quite an accomplished Editorial photographer as well. His work on Katrina is extraordinary http://www.laforetvisuals.com/main.php
