Lazy Sunday!

Since we don’t live by politix alone (I sincerely hope), what did people get up to this weekend? Join in, share some tales, regulars and lurkers all!

On Friday night, I went along with some friends to the opening of the Brisbane Artists Run Initiatives Festival at Jugglers Art Space. And a good night it was. And last night I saw the wonderful Linda E and Poly Toxic @ the Powerhouse as part of the Pasifika Festival.

    First?
Spent the day pre cooking this week’s meals and I have to cook dinner!

Hmmm up early to bath dog who looked–and smelled–disgusting! yech! To obedience school, practice for Royal Show obedience demo, part of a lesson then to the ‘mock trial.’ Did that, not too bad then had to hang around to do ’stays.’ Wonderful, NOT! Grass was wet, wind was cutting. To the ’stays’ and bloody dog would have mock graduated if it had done the sit-stay properly instead of making that a drop-stay, grrr!

Of to Farmers Market, got a real score! Four bottles decent 2004 red for just $20, a lovely little cauli some seedlings and 4 friands.

Got home, made coffee, put friands on coffee table. F*cking dog ate all the friands!!!

Spent a few hours in garden, the rain we had from July on hopefully means a decent peach harvest this summer. Oh how I love to get up early, head to peach tree and scoff 10 or more peaches straight off the tree! Hopefully enough peaches to eat lots fresh straight off tree and a few jars each butter.

Now relaxing with the aid of a LaTrappe Quadrupel 10%

I went to my de facto goddaughter’s 21st, where about 30 of her fellow choristers from the Adelaide Uni Choral Society sang the best polyphonic eight-part-harmony ‘Happy Birthday’ I have ever heard in my entire life.

Our church celebrated its 113th anniversary, and our minister has just returned from a trip to Uganda and Pakistan — his idea of long-service leave is to give lectures in places where it can still be dangerous to be a Christian. Then helped raise funds for the Australian Breastfeeding Association at a Bunnings barbie. Housework, a bit of gardening, some rather lucky macro shots for my blog. Blogging. Dinner is a vegetarian bulghur pilaf, recipe from Armenia. Expecting to spend the evening watching the ABC. Considering employing the Vashta Nerada to chase my workplace’s delinquent borrowers.

Finished putting the expert commentary team together for next week’s live Worst of Perth state election coverage.

Also was subjected to a Spongebob marathon by the boy. SB’s a fantastic actor, but Mr Krabs steals the show in my opinion.

Took one dog to the vet, possibly has a grass seed stuck up his nose, so he’s going back tomorrow to be sedated while they take a proper look.

Took the other dog on a long walk letterboxing for teh Greens.

I did a workshop on writing adapted screenplays with Andrew Davies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Davies_(writer). At least that’s what it was advertised as – the reality was Andrew talked about what he’d done writing the screenplays for four of his adaptations. Which was actually exactly what I hoped he’d talk about.

Had a very unpleasant moment when, as people were going around the tabel introducing themselves, I realised the vaguely familiar-looking woman down the end was the author of a book I gave a well-deserved verbal kicking to in a review recently. Managed to avoid making eye contact for the remainder of the day.

It is not the dog drinking the LaTrappe :)

Indeed! But hey, nobody’s ever bought me four friands.

Well I woke up late still pissed from the night before, enjoyed a good bowel movement and/or deposited some comments here then braved Connex’s latest experiments in aversion therapy to travel across town to work on a film soundtrack where the studio cat snagged me a ripper down my right forearm during an idle human/feline game of rock, scissors, paper, claw, fuck! and then eventually wended my way back home to deposit this comment before unwinding like an over-stretched slinky with a joint, a fistful of 12 year old Glemorangie, a DVD of “Witness For The Prosecution” and a bowl of wasabi peas.

While using only one full stop

Woke up dead with my car sensibly left behind in Fitzroy after ending the night drinking fine wine straight from the bottle. Not so sensible was getting up at midday when I needed to be in Northcote with my drums by 1pm to soundcheck for a live recording. A cab ride and a probably still over the limit drive crisscrossing the inner north later, and I was the only 40 minutes late.

Everything came together in the end, largely thanks to a much-needed kebab before the first set, and then said kebab making a surprise reappearance between sets in the band room dunny.

    Rock. And. Fucking. Roll.

To give an idea how NOT rock and roll I was feeling – I still have two rider cards in my pocket.

Went to see “The Edge of Love” with the GF – very disappointing. Nowhere near enough of D. Thomas the poet, and far too much of the man. I really didn’t want to know what a thoroughly worthless human being he was.

‘with a joint, a fistful of 12 year old Glemorangie, a DVD of “Witness For The Prosecution” and a bowl of wasabi peas.”

    Great combination, Nabs.

“F*cking dog ate all the friands!!!”

You see, my theory is that when the dogs are at obedience school they sneakily use it as a cover to pass useful information to each other. Such as, ‘friands, mate. They’re the best. Get them while you can”.

    heheheheh Fine

Aforementioned canine is back from the Vet none the worse for his adventures after having a large grass seed extracted from his sinuses. Aforementioned canine’s owner (aka me) is about $300 poorer.

    Ouch! Canines cost.
