Lazy Sunday!

Since we don’t live by politix alone (I sincerely hope), what did people get up to this weekend? Join in, share some tales, regulars and lurkers all!

I enjoyed my afternoon yesterday at the Future of Journalism event, and a subsequent wander across the footbridge to Southbank and a beer or two at the Ship Inn with a couple of friends from the ABC and a co-panelist. After that, I got the train to Brunswick Street to meet up with some more friends for the Valley Fiesta, which is rather crazy, but largely in a good way.

And it was a very nice warm Brisbane spring day yesterday… today, not so much.

    Hmmmm FRIST?

Have been boring all and sundry here about my trials and tribulations about my terrier bitch at obedience training.

We had been doing extra training for an obedience demonstration at the Adelaide Royal Show. Said demonstration (2 sessions each on Thu & Fri last week) went flawlessly, Demi being rock solid even in the exercise where the dogs are told to sit, stay and the handlers then walk around the ring of dogs.

This morning, very nice to hear lots of compliments about Demi’s doing well in the lesson and the Show. Very nice!

After that shopped for tomato seedlings and converted some flavored-milk cartons into ‘pots’ for tomato seedlings: posts and all being placed in garden as soon as soil is warm enough.

Relaxing with a bottle of La Chouffe now.

Yesterday was a nice warm Spring day here in Sydney as well – today it’s been pissing down rain (the beach birthday party that one sprog was planning to attend was postponed). So we decided to introduce the kids to the original Alien movie instead. I’d forgotten quite how stately the early scenes were, and how gradually the horror ramped up to the intensity of the final 30 minutes or so. Even though I knew which *shock* scenes were coming, they still made me jump. Most enjoyable.

I’ve always preferred the second one Aliens as a clasic action film

Saturday: bought a couple of DVDs.

    Sunday: started watching them.

Donna’s great when she’s not yelling herself water-eyed. Which was basically the entire episode. I’m with Z.

Well, to come it from another angle, I liked Rose a lot more when she was being a sort of nameless Doctor figure than being Rose…

    Don’t bust a gut, terangeree.

Saturday – set up a Bollywood birthday party extravaganza for the Lady Friend and our old housemate. Best party for ages, and my new (old) PA system works a treat.

Sunday – the preceding abuse of various substances rendered the day not so much lazy as non-existent. Left the packing up and cleaning for tonight. Now regretting it.

I’m afraid Catherine Tate is of the ‘when all else fails yell like crazy’ acting school. I couldn’t stand her comedy series. All lazy catch-phrases and yelling.

I didn’t like the comedy series much either, but I’ve liked her work in Dr Who – I think Donna’s a more compelling and better drawn character than a lot of the companions.

Saturday: hung out in the sun with mates. Did no work. Sunday: struggled with recalcitrant templates, widgets and other aliens trying to set up new blog aka Pavlov’s Cat 2.0, now with special almost-absence of pinkification. Did no work.

Monday: panicking about no work done.

And I obviously still can’t do links properly either.

Hi, all. Back again. been in hospital, again since I last posted with chest infectiuon. Okay now and back to normal. Hopefully I won’t see the inside of the place till next winter. While there, being an organised little sod, even in extremity, read and took notes from John Drinkwater’s A History of the Siege of Gibraltar, 1779-1783 ( for a couple of chs. of my book). + read thre 2 vol. Diary of Frederick Mackenzie about life in British Army in Boston, New York, long Island, Thode Island, New York, 1775-1781, Fascinating. + some notes for a review I’m writing. Might splurge on Amazon again today or tomorrow. Now to peruse LP and get back into the real world.

PB – you might find a few plaintive calls for news on your health and well-wishing and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Don’t think I’ve joined the chorus myself yet, so here’s my welcome back and it’s great to hear you’re doing well.
