This girl I know burnt my copy of American Psycho. It was a long time ago, but I still condemn her. (though it wasn’t really a very good book.) Interesting critique of capitalisnm, though.

I reckon it’s one of the few cases where the movie was better than the book – largely because the horror and violence were toned down. Still, burning a copy of of it (I presume because it is perceived as highly mysogonist) is a little extreme. I condemn myself for laughing so much at the long thoughtful descriptions of Huey Lewis and the News songs – I knew people just like that in a previous life (note – not in terms of music snobbery, but in terms of inflating the importance of ephemera).

Four possible causes have been identified:

[I] the key was not depressed hard enough to make electrical contact – so the first “X” did not appear, [II] the writing stylus was used too lightly to make the impression in the wax distinct enough. {III} the writing tablet was left near heat or out in the sun so the wax in that spot melted back into flatness. or [IV .... or IIII for all you clepsydra and hour-glass watchers] an inattentive slave failed to write down the master’s or mistress’s words correctly. [It's so hard to buy decent slaves who are both literate and reliable these days, isn't it?]
