Gobama!
We seem to be getting a lot of 503 errors, which must mean either increased traffic on our server or the intertubes staggering under the weight of US election traffic generally.
But here’s a widget from MSNBC which should enable anyone checking in here to get a sense of the latest results. You can mouse over each state to get the latest count:
Other places to follow the count – Crikey has both Possum and The Poll Bludger liveblogging. At The Guardian, Anna Pickard is liveblogging the election coverage on tv (and Fox might get interesting!) while Oliver Burkman liveblogs the count. William Edelstein comments on the appalling voting process. There’s also liveblogging at Feministing, Crooks & Liars and much closer to home at Hoyden About Town.
The invaluable FiveThirtyEight.com has a post by post liveblog, and updated results graphically illustrated on the sidebar.
Lindsay Beyerstein at Majikthise has a twitter map of the US for your edification.
Update: I think scatterplot is right. Obama has won this thing.
Update: New post on the policy implications of Obama’s victory.

Update: I think scatterplot is right. Obama has won this thing.
Looks like IT from all I’m hearing ,Kim.
200 electoral votes bagged with 73 left coast EVs to come.
It’s over.
So where is Palin’s god now?
Putting the Antichrist in the White House, Shaun. It’s all part of the end times plan!
Heh. Nice one Kim.
You laugh now, Shaun.
Yeah I know DD. Come January Obama will reveal he really is is a Muslim, impose Sharia law in the US and make the country a haven for terrorist, abortion loving radicals all out to get whitey.
Hehe, it’s so all over… I’m just staying awake now to see how things turn out in the senate races. Unfortunately it’s looking as though the Democrats won’t get a filibuster proof senate.
Obama ahead in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Colorado. Just behind in Indiana, but we’re waiting on Lake county – very populated and pro Obama. It’s looking like a landslide. Woo hoo!
Apparently Bush has said “God bless whoever wins tonight”.
So that must make it all right then.
Update: New post on the policy implications of Obama’s victory.
John Bolton is hilarious on the BBC… He’s so pissed…
Pissed as in angry, or drunk?
Have any of the networks asked Joe the Plumber how he’s feeling?
CNN is reporting that McCain and Cindy are watching the returns from the Barry Goldwater suite in his hotel in Phoenix!
And it’s a concession of a loss by McCain advisors!
Kim I reckon that there is a good chance that he was both. He’s no longer on, he was completely trolling with the other presenters – he even suggested that the BBC should fire one of their reporters because he dared to argue with one of McCain’s advisors!
Obama has 50% in Indiana, just ahead of McCain, and he is a squeak ahead in North Carolina. He’s won the battleground states and is now making inroads into previously safe Republican territory. It’s a rout. Yay.
So much for the theory of “you can’t trust the opinion polls because of the Bradley effect, the voter turnout effect, the whatever effect”.
The polls got every single state right. (If Obama wins Indiana, that will be one they got wrong).
Possibly Montana as well.
If anybody is still interested in the counting and commentary Valley Public Radio, in California, is still streaming and very informative. They suggest the result is about to move to official “landslide” status.

McCain’s got Montana.
But Indiana is still open.
Indiana is the heartland of the Republican heartland; amazing stuff.
