KevinPM

Labor’s long awaited followup to Kevin07 in new media outreach is now up – KevinPM.

Musings of an inappropriate woman and Stilgherrian discuss developments, including Kevin Rudd’s apparent sign up to Twitter.

    KevinPM, eh?

But the thing is, all my Kevin problems tend to happen in the morning. Where can I buy some KevinAM?

KevinPM’s site at Twitter crashed. Everybody has to sign up again.Or nearly everybody. Malcolm’s site at Twitter did not crash. Not enough people were interested, even though he’s been on it since last October.Bit of copy-catting here from Rudd?
    btw, what is Twitter?

    Paul,

    Twitter wiki entry

Basically, it’s just another high tech method of annoying everybody, but with more tentacles into doodads like instant messaging to telephones and all sorts of other intrusiveness. Kind of like Facebook if it reached out through your monitor and slapped you half a dozen times a day.

    I hate them all.

    I hate them all.

    David, we agree about something.

I wonder if we can agree that silly ventures like KevinPM on twitter are simply another way to get his bonce on the TV rather than actually connect with anybody.

What public figure in their right mind would deliberately open themselves up to the fawning obsequiesness or vile abuse of the hoi polloi via SMS and RSS feeds and endless Facebook invites and exhortations to come to your school reunion?

I’d hate to be the poor sap designated as the twitter monkey to monitor it, what an awful job.

(but… I dunno, I think I agreed with pretty much everything you said on the last TOD laura)

    KevinPM…well he can be tiresome.

KevinPM has too much time on his hands if he actually twitters himself. I think twitter could be a useful tool for MPs with low profiles or even small parties that want to get information out to people who are interested.

But really Rudd shouldn’t have trouble doing that given he’s on the news every night. I haven’t seen anything useful come out of Turnbull’s twitter feed, though people are asking him questions via Twitter so will be interesting to see if useful information comes back.

FWIW I really like Twitter – is a great way to keep up with what friends and work colleagues are doing. Has been very useful from a work/business point of view.

What pollies should all have in these brave new times is a dedicated online representative, with an actual identity of their own, yet personally close to the polly. KevinPM, for example, could be given a ‘digest’ of issues raised by commenters/friends/detractors at the blog, the opportunity to write posts or respond to comments when time allows etc.

But most of the time, a staffer runs the site, moderates, engages, says “hmmm, I’ll ask Kevin”. Basically a New MediaTM press secretary.

FDB @ 9 – I don’t think they’re going to want to credit a staffer with the work that they do for online communication anymore than they credit them for speeches they write or paper correspondence. Except if they stuff up of course :-)

There you go again Liam – flouting your special character skillz.

What a wanker. Really. Get a job Kevvie. Oh that’s right. You’ve got one. Why don’t you do it then.
    .
    Who’s paying for this?

davidRubie: “What public figure would open themselves up to endless invites to your school reunion?”
I don’t think Kev will have to worry about that, he won’t be invited, he’s on record as dissing his old school as “tough, harsh, unforgiving, institutional Catholicism … (a) culture which condoned violence.”
He might be PM, but he’ll never be considered an ‘Old Boy’ talking out of school like that.

“he’s on record as dissing his old school as ‘tough, harsh, unforgiving, institutional Catholicism…’”

Well he can’t have been paying very close attention then, as Catholicism is, almost by definition, anything but unforgiving…

“Well I did not think the Church
    Could be so cruel;
    And I’m never going back
    To my old school.”

JPZ: That’s a monstrous suggestion, the KevinAM, the morning Kevin … have you had your morning Kevin yet?… It’ll be a hectoring ringtone on your alarm clock telling you “you’re now at a fork in the road, you can either stay in bed or suck it up sunshine, and give it a fair go for the working families?”
On the new digital radio you’ll get a lecture on what you should do with your day while you swill down your cup of cold KevinUp, which you’ll hear all about in the show’s sponsor’s ad-break. That’s what he meant by the broadband and education revolutions : he’s gonna be everywhere, a ubiquitous digital Channel Kevin, giving us his oddly distorted grondhog day version of reality where it’s forever Kevin O’Clock, where even the KevinThirty report is on Kevin at Kevin.

As you say, there will be some variation, there will be 2 new time zones to replace the old Oriental/Occidental hemispheric dichotomy. There’ll be KevinAM and KevinPM, and wherever he is will be the prime meridien. You’ll know when you’re in the KevinPM hemisphere, ie when he’s on the other side of the planet, because it will be dark and as we all know, the sun shines out of…

Now it’s been shown from the G20 blab that he can get away with whatever he likes, that’s he’s untouchable, that those who used to like to think of themselves as teh left won’t criticize him for fear of giving the RWDB’s fuel, there’s nothing to stop him. Laurie Oakes sucking up and getting the Tessa to launch his book was the final sign. He told us it was gonna get ugly.
