a) Dr Who was launched the week JFK was umm..delaunched.

b) Shouldn’t Delia Derbyshire get more of a guernsey here?

Within a matter of months she had created her recording of Ron Grainer’s Doctor Who theme, one of the most famous and instantly recognisable TV themes ever. On first hearing it Grainer was tickled pink: “Did I really write this?” he asked. “Most of it,” replied Derbyshire.

c) First female Dr Who? Tilda Swinton. Or Emily Woof. OK, Emma Watson – in about five to ten years – if you really insist.

d) Sooner or later, they’re gonna update the external Tardis. I don’t like that thought any more than you do – but if it’s gonna happen, then why not an enclosed airport web terminal? Say at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. You could lose a time-traveling Dalek Horde there just between Terminals Four and Five.

e) Don’t even fucking think about changing the main riff Mr BBC.

Never mind Su, have a jelly baby.
In the late 80s, a monumental battle was waged between the Master and the Doctor (Tom Baker), for control of the universe, culminating in a 2 hour finale on Saturday afternoon.
We’d got about half an hour into it and there was a bloody power cut which lasted- you guessed it-until the final credits! We rang everyone we knew whose power hadn’t been affected but no go, so we still don’t know how the Doctor gained the upper hand and vanquished the Master. I’ve harboured an unreasoning hatred towards ETSA ever since.

I remember being quite small and seeing part of an episode in which plastic came alive and killed people. Scared the crap out of me. That was before the repeats of the late 70’s I think, by that time I was old enough to be seriously pissed off with Jo Grant’s fate. Married. To a Welshman. With a Mullet! Phooey.

hunt down Tjupurru’s track – ‘Shake dat Leg’ Some absolutely wild Didj playing with the old Dr Who theme ) actually the whole Stompin Ground EP (available in itunes store) is fun.
I must admit I do not mourn the cold war politics of the early Dr Who series.

Me too Mark. Think I became hooked in about 1978. The ABC actually stopped showing the show for a year or two, but then there was a deluge of Tom Baker episodes and some Jon Pertwee repeats.

It’s older than me at any rate! But so much of my childhood and adolescence revolved around the Goodies at 6pm and Dr Who at 6.30pm on the ABC! I think – memory plays tricks!
