SEQ Regional Plan a travesty against the people of South East Queensland

The Queensland Government’s Draft South East Queensland Regional Plan, far from achieving its lofty claimed goals of “protect(ing) and enhanc(ing) the quality of life”, landscape values, biodiversity and natural assets of the region, will, instead, turn even much of that region into an economically depressed, crowded and ecologically unsustainable slum for no better purpose than to keep profits flowing into the pockets of the growth lobby which largely bankrolls the ruling Queensland Labor Party.

Congratulations QUT on becoming Queensland’s best university. I would like to point out that the University of Queensland officially sucks. Library hours have been cut back due to budget constraints (something that never happened during all the Howard funding-cutback years). The Social Sciences and Humanities library now closes at 8pm Mon-Thu and 5 on Friday, the Physical Sciences and Engineering library closes even earlier and doesn’t even open on Sunday. But what UQ has sacrificed in quality, they make up for in fruity rebranding and advertising campaigns! Congratulations to the Vice Chancellor on moving UQ in a bold new ‘style over substance’ direction. And kudos to our ‘Fresh’ Student Union of Young Libtards, who divert all their student-representing efforts into opening a campus Subway and supporting the LNP campaign by dropping leaflets full of lying bullshit in classrooms.

Interesting to see John Elliott and Catherine Deveney on Q&A.

They equalled each other in discourteous boorishness. Interrupting other speakers, harrumphing (each in their own way). If they could both learn some MANNERS (allegedly one of Mr Elliott’s favourite things) we’d have neen spared some of their boisterous banter.

BTW, John Elliott blamed Steve Vizard for associating him with the “pig’s arse!!” expostulation in “Rubbery Figures”. I think it was Peter Nicholson.

  6. Paul Burns

Eliot was incredibly bad-mannered. Or was he just drunk? He was nowhere near that bad on Andrew Denton.

  7. Paul Burns

Well, I’ve started a blog and done a sort of introductory post on it. It’s called Being A History Head and other things. (Thanks, Lefty E for putting me onto blog spot.) So I guess I might see some of you commenting on it from time to time.
Doesn’t mean I’m going to stop being a regular commenter here, though.
    See ya.

  8. Rockstar Philosopher

links or it didn’t happen paul :P

  9. Paul Burns

    [Moderator note: link fixed ~tigtog]

[Further note: except that link doesn't actually go anywhere - check your blog's domain name]

  11. Paul Burns

    Guess not. Help!

  12. Lefty E

Excellent Paul! Blogspot is a good format if you really aren’t too savyy with code etc. You probably already know this- but you can out your blog address under your name and email in the LP comments box, then it will come up with your name when you comment here.

  13. Paul Burns

Thanks, Lefty E. Just one very stupid question, but you’ll have to bear with me. How do I know what my blog address is?

  14. tigtog

    @Paul Burns:

If you are writing posts on the blog, then you should be able to view the blog. Do that..

Now right-click on the name of the blog in the banner-area, and copy that link-location. That should be your blog address.

  15. Paul Burns

    Wonder if it works now?

  16. tigtog

    @Paul Burns:

    Yep, that’s working fine.

  17. Paul Burns

Yeah, it does. Thanks, tigtog, Lefty E. If you click on my name it’ll open. Then you have to click on the postname for comments, if any.
Guess I’m internet savvy, now, eh? :)

Massive thumbs down for Canberra nightclub Minque (located in Manuka near APH), for expelling a Sikh because he was wearing a turban. They’re being made to apologise (reluctantly) but having spoken to a colleague whose partner works there, I’ve been told they will be weasel words. Hope none of the LIberal-leaning Canberra-based staffers who tend to hang out there will be seen there until there’s a more heartfelt apology.

  19. Paul Burns

    AT@18,
Sounds like its exactly the right place for Liberal staffers. WTF has happened to Bob Menzies’ once great party? Liberalism is a political philosophy that can be pretty hard to define, so much so thatr one can argue it was a philosophy in part shared by Labor (eg Jack Lang). But its missing from the halls of power on the Opposition side of politics nowadays, that for sure. And those few Opposition members who do genuinely espouse it sound like they’re in the wrong party.
And the Liberal Party wonders why people call them racist.

  20. Quog

I reckon Tony Jones must have the patience of a saint not to have bound and gagged John Elliot on live TV. He was the worst panelist yet in Q&A. He looked and sounded like he’d had a little to much goon in the green room.

  21. AdamTucker

Quog, didn’t you find Kate ?Deveny at least as annoying as John Elliott?

  22. Paul Burns

Did another post on my blog.- I’m not going to announce it every time. It;s just that it a new thing.

  23. Lefty E

Great stuff Paul – like it! Have linked to you on my blog.

I believe I may have the first comment too!

  24. zorronsky

Some time back I commented that Israel doesn’t want peace- It wants Palestine.
Some commenters pointed to Israels false withdrawal from Gaza [locked down from outside] as some sort of proof that they didn’t covet Palestine.
    Words.
Empirical evidence during the last 60 odd years suggests otherwise.
now champion of the right Prime Minister Netanyahu, the voice of the majority of Israeli voters has made it plain.
Continued expansion, no two state solution, retention of the Golan Heights and continued and tightened control of Gaza. Actions do speak louder than words.
I feel very sorry for the people of Palestine but see no end in sight to the misery inflicted on them.

  25. Jacques de Molay

Yeah both Catherine Deveny and John Elliott were terrible on Q&A. I haven’t seen or come across much of Deveny before but I’m starting to see what all the fuss is about. Those two were as bad each other.

    Congratulations on the blog, Paul!

    Paul @ 22

How do I know what my blog address is?</blockquote.

Heh. That made me smile for quite some minutes. Thank you. And congratulations on your new blog-baby.

  27. Paul Burns

Thanks to all of you for helping me set up my blog, and for the comments. I’ve given some responses.
Thanks for linking me, Lefty E.
    Fun times ahead I reckon.

  28. Paul Burns

btw, fellow LP-ers, how do I link your blogs and LP to my blog in a list on my blog. I’d be quite happy to do it, but I haven’t got a clue. (Hope I’m not a nuisance.)

  29. Quog

@AdamTucker, yes, she was annoying, but Elliot kept interrupting, kept muttering in the background. Rude in the extreme, especially as he was on to talk about manners.

  30. Pavlov's Cat

Paul B, sign in to your blog and then click on these links in this order as each new window comes up:

    - Dashboard
    - Layout
    - Add a Gadget
    - Blog List (you might have to scroll down for that)
    - Add to List

And then enter the URL of the blog you want to add. Don’t forget to click on the Save button each time you add something or make changes.

Blogger Help is also pretty good.

Didn’t you notice that Ms Deveney kept interrupting other panellists? I did. In the rude panellist contest I think it was a close-run thing between Boor 1 and Boor 2. [Deveney, Elliott]

Women can’t be bores? Ms Deveney can. She’s a champ.

Sad to say, for several years in the 1980s some folk were saying Mr Elliott should enter Parliament, lead he Liberal Party, and become PM. A close call. Providence saved us from Bronnie Bishop, John Elliott (never came close) and Mark Latham (closer shave).

  32. John Passant

My blog (En Passant) has an article about another twelve months of the alcopops tax and argues the Commissioner of Taxation shouldn’t gazette the proposed increase for the next twelve months that the Rudd Government is angling for.

There’s also an article about refugees and Australia’s long history of racism.

And I have a guilty confession to make. I haven’t got out of my pyjamas all day. What indulgent fun.

I have a new laptop, have been uploading photos of my trip to the USofA. How many photos does one person need of Spanish moss in Louisiana swamps? I also took an unnecessary number of snaps of ironwork in New Orleans…..I think I’m still in recovery from the mind-fuck that is present-day New Orleans, but I loved it, and I want to go back.

This afternoon, I had to remove an inch and from my bedside table…bizarre..it was a winged female. then I had a huntsman streak across the floor…seems the critters have decided to move indoors in my absence.

I was hoping would have rained here and I would be returning to greenery, but no such luck.

  34. James Rice

    yeti at 3,

A sound basis for discontent, yes…but how can the University Of Queensland suck? Name one other university with the vision to name its chancellery building the Brian Wilson Chancellery?

  35. Paul Burns

    Thanks, PC.
Will try that tomorrow when I’m more awake.
