There were six of us watching SOO last night when the warning appeared onscreen in the form of a scroller. Because the scroller is Channel Nine's spam-of-choice for live broadcasts, only one of us saw it, and even then only in time to say "Hey, that was something about a tsunami..." before it disappeared.

Another useful channel of information destroyed by advertising?

Paul - Yep I remember hearing that fear/justification in Armidale and Tamworth on multiple occasions - usually at one of the evangelical-type churches I used to visit. All part of the "end-days" apparently...relatives still inquire as to how "safe" I feel in Sydney (rolling eyes at this point).
Looks like the early-warning system is working nicely for those in the know. As always, the biggest problem is getting the false-warning rate low enough such that a wider distribution method would be useful (phone txt, etc).

I was going to sit up and watch it all on ABC TV from the absolute safety of inland Armidale, high up, (though not real high up - we don't get snow every winter - )on the Northern Tablelands.
FWIW, I've actually met one or two people in Armidale who either moved here, or won't move from here, because they want to avoid that big tsunami down there on the coast (the one that will happen when California falls into the sea.)

That's a very interesting question, and it's coming up in the context of the bushfire royal commission.

Interviewed on Sydney beaches this AM and a significant number were unaware of the warnings. Maybe time to broaden the warnings to PC's and /or phones?
