Yup strong prey drive, a damn good ratter! (and lizarder unfortunately.)

Not interested in tug games, will chase tennis balls enthusiastically, is tenacious in looking for it in the mostly weeds making up my back garden ATM.

Yes, one of the things besides the exercise is plenty of treats when she is in the right position walking, right by my left leg.

SO (s)he should have failry strong prey drive -- like the tug of war with a smallish rope, food rewards etc.

It just sounds like more work is needed reinforcing that

Demi is a terrier, cross between (probably) a Jack Russel and a Silky Terrier. I have been going to obedience classes for 3 years. Yes the old "watch" I do.

Personality? Active & energetic very self willed and independent as with all real terriers.

Have you tried control using the look command?

You hold the treat (or if she/he is toy oriented, the toy) in your hand and say "look!" and when she responds you reward. You can also use a clicker as this is tidier. Practice with both hands so you can keep open doing agility.

What sort of dog is Demi? What's personality?

Robert, I had a Jim Barry 1996 Shiraz with the lamb--grass fed lamb, tender 7 delicious. The wine is unbelievably good.

Fran, the part of the trial Demi failed was the free heeling, i.e. dog off lead. Doing well working our way up the ring (to be followed by fast pace back down the ring them the figure of eight. Demi saw a clump of grass clippings and ran off to investigate it.

I think one problem is she is underexercised--my fault, which I have been trying to remedy at such cost to arthritic hip :)

Jovial Monk@5

R your obedience trial -- as someone who trains dogs --- which obedience did your dog fail?

Have you tried breaking up the task into smaller units? Is your dog nomrally excitiable or passive? What are you using for rewards?

Just interested.

Grats Ken! Saw Blood Wedding performed by some students and wondered when the accountants will close the drama department at the uni. All this acting and stuff can't be cost effective - surely it can be contracted out!

Congratulations Ken. Never having tried either, I do however stick my unqualified neck out to opine that to write the Great Australian Novel would be but a minor accomplishment alongside the mind numbing labourious tedium of effort required to transform the blank page into a thesis.

Jovial Monk & Robert Merkel. A good cab sauv would be better to wash down lamb. Or of course, the all-purpose chaser to ANY meal, a big bold shiraz!
