I’m a bit late to this party, because I was away on holidays last week, but I think I’ve just managed to squeeze in a plug for the Overland subscriberthon while it’s still going! There are all sorts of prizes to be won for new subscribers, and a host of content from all sorts of luminaries on the magazine’s blog to celebrate.
Overland is a fantastic literary and cultural journal, which while long established, continues to bring fresh and interesting perspectives to all sorts of debates – with a democratic and political tinge. So do yourself the proverbial favour…

Yeah, yeah, but it would be good if their subscriber web interface accepted email addresses of the Celtic persuasion. I had to get an alternative gmail address to subscribe. Whoever decides these internet protocol things – five geeks at MIT I suspect – have already decided the apostrophe is a valid character for the purposes of email addresses. When will Overland get their act together and catch up with this?
Will pass on the suggestion, Anthony.
Off-topic, I know, but gmail are actually not conforming to the “standard” (RFC 821, IIRC). It sounds like “Overland” are.
It’s a long time since I looked at this in detail, but my recollection is that the only valid characters for an email address are letters, numbers, ‘.’ and ‘@’ (interpreted as ‘.’). They aren’t case-sensitive either.
