And the very best to all at LP. Thanks for your hard work through this year – making this site possible.
It’s been a tumultuous, thought-provoking, thready and fun year – in no small part thanks to LP.
Here’s to all of us through 2010 -and beyond!
“Let’s not have a sniffle, Let’s have a bloody good cry – And always remember the longer you live, The sooner you’ll bloody-well die.”

And to everyone here I wish the insight into all matters pertinent to their interests needed to respond rationally in pursuit of what each deems happiness.

Happy christmas, LP, and Commenters. It’s been a delightful, amazing, scary, disappointing, exhilarating, hilarious year. Mark, Robert, Brian Tigtog, Anna, etc. thank you for the posts, and David Irving, Fran, Fine, Lefty E, FDB, Paul, Wwilful, Ute Man, Nabs, Katz,Myriad and many, many others, thanks so much for your erudite, entertaining, thoughtful and caring commentary throughout the year. This is a community I’m proud and happy to be a part of. Best wishes all.

Merry Xmas and Happy New year LP-ers, and many thanks for all the interesting stuff thoughout 2009. Hope 2010 will be interesting too, but not necessarily in the Chinese sense of the word. :)

  5. Ambigulous

Thanks LP for another very good year.
Youse outdid yourselves again, what a pleasure to read and learn.
Hoping for more perturbing catastrophe stories from Brian in 2010 ;-)

May all the “liars” inhabit just one thread, and may it lengthen.

  6. Political Animal

To all a pleasant Christmass and a Happy and prosperous New Year.

  7. Craig Mc

A very happy christmas to all my favourite lefties from this semi-resident, right-wing troll. In honour of LP this year, I’ll be giving my nieces carbon credits instead of the usual lumps of coal.

  8. Sir Henry Casingbroke

Lady Fiona and I would like to wish everyone a pleasantly buzzed Xmas. May I say it has been an absolutely unalloyed pleasure crossing swords, subtly subverting and most importanly, learning from the stunning erudition, wit and logic of Larva Prodders (while all the while sucking up to landlord Mark) in what is THE premier blogpit in the, er, the Southern hemisphere. Let us all return as feisty as ever if not more so, after the refreshment break. Huzzah!!!!

  9. Katz

    Thanks folks.

    You taught me a lot.

May you all beware of what you wish for, and then get it.

  10. Lefty E

Yes, Very Xmas all. LP remains my choice of news and analysis – thanks to your good selves. Frankly, I dont feel like ive absorbed the news till Ive discussed it here. So cheers. Feliz navidad!

thanx muchly to LP and to all for such a consistently good interwebs experience, compliments of bah humbug to all…and have a great new year….

  12. Mercurius

Well, in my tradition, we don’t “do” Christmas, however of course I extend the good sentiments all round.

I guess if the Messiah were born tonight, since the voters of Australia have decided there is no room at the inn, the Messiah would be born on Christmas Island.

I wonder whether God’s sense of humour runs to the sardonic?

  13. Anna Winter

Craig Mc, that made me laugh!

Merry Christmas/Happy Festivus. Eat well, drink well and get back here safely.

  14. FDB

Thanks as always felt but rarely given for this awesomely excellent place to be stimulated, educated and entertained.

For everyone directly involved – I salute your erudition, brilliance, drive, and patience. This is not an easy medium, and nobody does it better IMNSHO.

For all the other chumps like me – how lucky are we?

To the folks who come here to genuinely engage with people they don’t already agree with (e.g. Craig Mc above, Herr Zenger, GregM, Razor, you-know-who-the-rest-of-youse-are) – keep coming. You’re a serious asset to the place.

  15. Peter Kemp

    Well done LP in 2009.

May we continue to live in “interesting times”

I wonder whether God’s sense of humour runs to the sardonic?

It does Mercurius, it does, God’s sardonic humour has no limits, especially in the conduct of members of my profession.

Belief inculcates a reverence for the dead.

Tradition in Singapore is that you put money in the coffin for the deceased to use in the afterlife.

Three mates of the deceased: the first two drop $100 cash each into the coffin. Singapore lawyer reaches in and takes the $200 in cash, writes a cheque for $300 and drops that in the coffin.

Merry Christmas LP and all contributors. This site is something to be proud of. This site is switched on and energetic. If I could award a prize for the most entertaining poster it would be David Irving. Onya mate, love your ‘up yours’ bluntness.

  17. Acerbic Conehead

I only have the time to lurk on this site, but I enjoy immensely the opportunities I have to read the contributions of Mark and the rest of the mob. Have a great Christmas, AC.

  18. Paul Burns

Merry Xmsas to you all. Hope you all have a wonderful Xmas.

  28. Bernice

In the oecumenical spirit that is LP at its best, happy holidays, Happy Hanukkah to one and all.

  29. Patricia WA

FDB asks “how lucky are we?” Indeed. Of course he’s referring to the interaction we have with all these beautiful minds on this great site. But today I’m thinking more personally about how blessed I am.

After four black coffees since 6 am I’m all pumped up so please forgive me if I rave on a bit. I’ve just returned from next door where as usual we have been exchanging gifts. Like all grandparents I’ve often had to bite my tongue about parenting decisions, on things like censorship and particularly the little boys’ very limited access to films, TV and IT generally. Now they’re ten and twelve I can see how the years of dense reading and active outdoors play with only recent use of modern technology have paid off.

They had made such imaginative gifts for each other. First the boys had prepared a jar of Pickled Elves Bottoms for their mum! Endless jokes from that. For their Dad they’d created a coloured comic book using Word Publisher about a Knight errant sailing across pirate infested waters, each picture with inset speech bubbles and each page with Gothic print narrative. Both boys are still sporting wonderfully sweeping cloaks their Mum made for them this Christmas. Daniel had made Jacob a beautiful, jewel encrusted sword with a heraldic inscribed scabbard, and Jacob for Daniel a plaster of paris rural scene which has trees, castles, moats, hovels and moveable animals they can use in their film making. Because film making with only the family digital camera which they are now allowed to download onto their Mum’s pc is a major diversion these days.

Not sure how I feel about censorship and Stephen Conroy now. Would another coffee help? Trust all you lovely LP bloggers are having a wonderful Christmas too.

Seasons Greetings and well wishes to LP denizens which I send today from the hewman services/state interface workplace where, thank some deity, nothin’ ‘orrible has transpired so far.

Thanks to all for the enlightenement and apologies to any persons wot I may ‘ave offended in any moments of flagrant or indeed even florid speech acts in the moments when an bitten tongue was a personal failure. Special thanks to the inventors/mods of LP. Well done.

  31. Jacques de Molay

Merry Christmas to all here on LP and especially Mr Ratzinger. No blood no foul, up ya get mate and let’s get on with the show. There’s collection plates that need a collecting.

  32. jane

  33. phil@vvb

  34. myriad74

Joyous Noelle and seasons greetings to believers and non alike I hope everyone has had a wonderful day.

Merry Christmas to everyone at LP! Ditto to all the previous comments about the pleasure of reading here.

This year I encountered a carol I’ve never heard before, and I’ve put up a Kings College version on my blog. Enjoy.

  43. Ootz

I’d like to wholeheartedly endorse the above sentiments.

We should look very much forward to the proclaimed ‘Peace on Earth’, which this fascinating annual ritual has failed to deliver thus far.

    We live through hope.

  44. reb of Hobart

    Happy Christmas one and all!

  45. Fine

I’m very late to this particular party, but Merry Christmas to one and all.

  46. Rayedish

Well tOo late to wish everyone a merry Christmas but holidays blessings for everyone! All the best for the new year.

  47. Emily Litella

What’s all this guff I keep hearing about “Police Navidad”?! I think the police should stick to catching crooks, and stop worrying about wishing me “Police Navidad” at Christmas! It’s everybody’s holiday, not just for the police!

Christmas is supposed to be about peace, not crime, so I don’t want people reminding me of cops and robbers by telling me “Police Navidad”! It spoils all the fun! Just because I happen to live in a bad neighborhood…

Wait. What’s that? Ooooh. Well that’s different then.

    Never mind!

  48. pterosaur

Late as usual, but many thanks to the LP crew for one of the best sites on the “tubes, from a regular lurker and sometimes contributor.

    Enjoy the holidays !
