Built a new house for the chookies and then had to go out and put them all in it when it was dark since they didn’t know where to sleep. I hope they get the hang of it soon. On the plus side lots of stuff recycled from the garage. Not a lazy Sunday at all.

Watched Murray turn into a poor wee ball of hate and misery.

Soccer (mens and womens), cricket, tennis (mens and womens).
Gosh – that was a busy weekend in the armchair.

    I’m exhausted – night all.

Have written 3/4 of chapter 6 of my book. Busy typing it up.

It’s snowing! Snow! Which means, if it snows all night, I don’t have to go to work tomorrow (or if I do, my bus will slide off the mountain and I’ll die horribly).

I spent the day watching Castle, and being cold.

I should be on a fast westbound train rolling through the snowy night halfway between Aioi and Okayama at the moment.

But I’m still sitting in my kitchen in Brisbane, because last night Jetstar cancelled my flight.

No reason other than the catch-all “due to operational and technical reasons”, and I had to fight with a Malaysian call centre to get a refund of the return fare (they didn’t want to refund the fare for the flight I cannot catch because they cancelled the flight that would enable me to catch the return flight) — then deal with the anger and disappointment of a fiancé who now cannot spend a week with her beloved.

And somehow explain to my boss, during a time when they are begging people to go on leave, that I now don’t want to take the leave that has just begun.

    There have been better weekends…

    terngeree,
It sounds like a horrible weekend. Hope everything works out okay ASAP.

  8. sg

terangeree, can’t you reschedule? Isn’t the cancellation due to that volcano?

  9. Helen

Did any LPers go to the Big Day Out in Melbourne? I gather a large number of people had to be treated for dehydration / heat exhaustion. Anyone here go? I do hope that dear old Mr. Pop was all right.

sg, I can’t reschedule due to her work schedule allowing her no spare time in late Feb / early March (Hina Matsuri).

I have work committments in Queensland that will keep me from travelling later, too. This week was the last possible week that this trip could be made before April.

No specific reason was given for the flight cancellation. I suspect it may have been something to do with the aeroplane itself, and not a meteorological or geological cause.

  11. Fine

Helen, I didn’t go but ran into a couple of friends who did. One even got on stage with Mr. Pop, so I think he was coping very well. How that man is alive and functioning is beyond me.

  12. FDB

A mate of mine (my orthopedic surgeon to boot) got to sing into GrandPop’s mic.

    Same guy Fine?

    terangaree,
Don’t know the geography of Japan that well, but I did hear there was a danger of a volcanic eruption at Mt. Hiroshima (is there such a place?) on the TV news on Saturday. Perhaps that was the reason for the flight delay?

    PB:

    It’s Mount Kirishima.

  15. Fine

Nah, FDB. My friend’s just a young’un. I *heart* GrandPop.

  16. Paul Burns

    terangaree,
That’s a relief. I thought it was a bit weird.

  17. sg

mount kirishima must be near the producers of one of Kyushu’s most popular brews, kuro no kirishima shochu. Be a terrible shame if that were tainted with volcanic ash…

On Saturday, I took part in a post-communist conspiracy which ended in a most enjoyable group dinner at Fatima’s Lebanese restaurant.

On Sunday, I went for a stroll around the streets of Glebe, before catching the tram back to Central and making my way back to my hotel room at Bondi Beach to watch the cricket.
