Bullshit!
Brian’s the first RWDB visitor
I was just testing your civility policy!
Live comment all good!
Going to bed now too.
Cheers
You’re not wrong!
Oi! How did you find this?
I think Jess keeps a keen eye on her referring pages!
We sincerely hope that the brevity of this posting, whilst excellent in sentiment, is not a portent. :0)
Most unlikely!
Looks like everyone has a redrag blog these days.
I haven’t anything to say really, just wanted to get in on the ground floor.
Looks like everyone has a gravatar these days!
It is the done thing.
What the f*ck is a larvatus prodeo? Does it involve bull-riding, clowns or the art of the lassoo? Do I have to have a pistol and a lariat to comment here?
Yes, incidentally, if you don’t have a gravatar you ain’t nobody.
Yeehah.
“Maritain explains: “In the juvenilia of Descartes we find the phrase Larvatus prodeo. ‘Like an actor wearing a mask, I come forward, masked, on the stage of the world.’ [...] It will be for the masked philosopher to unmask the sciences and to make their continuity and their unity appear with their beauty” (The Dream of Descartes, 41, 92 n.25). The phrase also refers to the precautions Descartes took not to offend the authorities with his new philosophical systems.”
Are you going to poach Sophie from Troppo? The verbage needs a bit of padding so far.
Nooo! Keep the literariat out!
Mr Flute, I think Sophie’s more likely to be poached by Normblog!
Mark, I think you should leave this thread here – would be very po/mo!
right, I’m off to get a gravatar!
Hey, this is sweet, since this is a test post that you’re going to delete anyway, we can all get away with being as defamatory as we please.
I’d like to bring up the following topics:
Ken Parish’s homophobia
Rafe Champion’s obsession with Karl Popper
Sophie Masson’s obsession with herself
Hmm, Liam, I’m thinking Kim’s suggestion isn’t a bad idea. I won’t hear a word spoken against Ken and Rafe.
So who are you going to get to be your Andrea Harris, deleting all the snark from people like me?
We’ll see if Kim (the commenter formerly known as yellowvinyl) has any time on her hands!
with pleasure!
how long does it normally take for the Gravatar folks to approve an image? I’m feeling all left out!
some interesting links on the blogroll here – liked Revolt & Resignation – great poetry and a good tagline:
A blog by Jennifer Thompson, who has the mad skills to pay the bills, and fears no deconstruction.

It took mine about two or three days. I couldn’t believe they monitored 80px2 pictures for smut, but as Miss Piss noted, I fit two hands and a typewriter into mine.
Looking good Bayno.
probably my first and last post…..
Pol Roger and moussaka tomorrow night? Let’s drink the cheap bastards champagne!
The purple is a nice touch.
So much for April eh?
You get a blogroll link when youre actually posting things
Woohah!
Now hurry up and post.
28th of March is the first post day!
Mark, I’d quit while you’re ahead, 36 comments for a one liner might well be the apogee. Why go downhill?
But very few about the topic of the post, Flutey!
There’s actually something else here to read now under “About the Site”.
Bio’s up now too.
Dr Who time! See ya!
28th March??? But I want one now…
Ask and ye shall receive. A quick post to keep you all going for a bit has just appeared.
Hey Liam! my gravatar took less time to be approved than yours! maybe yr on some sort of “politically suspect” anti-terrorism inspired list???
I don’t give a fuck about anything else .
PJK was the best dressed PM we ever had or will have.
Help! My kitten is attacking me. And the bees! On my god the bees!
if you get the right gravatar, Irant, you’ll be safe from the bees
Indeedy. It’d be hard to make Parliament broadcast quite as interesting as he did. Nerdy child as I was, anyone who can make the Parliament broadcast seem like a really good thing to watch to a primary-school age girl has a special kind of talent.
Of course, now I think about it, that may explain my potty mouth. ;P
Looks good, Mark.
Hmmm, not really sure about the name, decor, posts or comments.
But hey! the drinks are reasonably priced. And when’s the band coming on?
Mind you, you can’t really do wrong if the pub’s got comment live preview and heaps of toilet lollies.
Sorry, I meant “live comment preview.”
We’re working on installing comment live preview, Nabs. The band said they’d bring it with them…
Cheers, Jen! You coming on Sunday arvo?
Ach, those bitter-sweet memories of Italian suits, Dutch courage and French Clocks ;P
Good luck, I will come lurking often …
“…bitter-sweet memories of Italian suits, Dutch courage and French Clocks”
So you got laid and then rolled in Hamburg too, Jozef?
And Mark, you gonna explain what the larval rodeo bloghead really means? Or just string it out as a running gag?
We know Mark has moved on, it seems like *years* since Troppo was last updated …
Not only did he wear great suits he had a nice turn of phrase at times.
Happy blogging.
This blog is almost as good as normblog.
Zoe, you satirist!
Wow, Mark, this is great!
All the best wishes for Larvatus Prodeo, not that you will need them!
Yeah what Nabs said. When you gunna explain?
Larvatus P. Rodeo – Country music with a Latin feel.
Nabs and FXH, here’s yr reading assignment:
http://larvatusprodeo.net/about-larvatus-prodeo/
Maybe, Naomi but I’m still going to stick to my resolution of not blogging regularly til after Easter while I sort out some other stuff…
Naomi, you are sooooooo right. Sophie Masson as a “public intellectual”!!!!
Well done Mark, record time!
Thanks, Chris. The design and functionality of the site is almost totally due to Rob – to whom I’m eternally grateful!
Ditto, yadda yadda. I won’t wish you luck, because you’re doomed to have a massive and appreciative audience, including me.
However, Liam and Nabsy have a point. Larva Rodeo conjures up far too many images of worms and leather chaps to be appropriate or wholesome. The name’s derivation is impossibly cryptic – you’ve obviously tried too hard. The fact that CL likes it proves it’s the wrong choice.
Maybe the subject of a future post could be a naming competition?
Another suggestion: get Kimberella on-board as a guest blogger. Her own blog isn’t quite firing (sorry, Kim, but it’s true), despite her undoubted ability, and she needs more experience on a good blog where she doesn’t have to post all the time. You also need to pretend that you’re not hopelessly addicted to this caper, and can walk away any time you want…
Thanks, Fyodor – and a good idea. To be fair to Kim, though, she’s had some pretty dire health issues of late.
I know it’s true, Fyodor – I’ve never really hit my stride. it’s partly because the livejournal format is crap – but also because of a lack of confidence I think. anyway, Mark’s been pestering me for ages to write something about identity politics so perhaps I will! thx for the suggestion!
Nabakov hit the nail on the head ;-D
Ach, the multi-meaning of “larvatus prodeo”
I´ll publish under a mask РMasked I advance РSamizdata without cowardice and visa versa

The good old days.
I agree with Zoe, fwiw – this blog IS almost as good as normblog.

For what it’s worth, I apologise for *bumping* the other day. It was bad of me and I was wrong to do it and I’m a bad person.
(but still, nostalgia ain’t what it used to be)

Yep, bumping is at least a venial sin, Liam. However, you’re absolved.
How *is* Normblog going these days?

Something to do with West Indian cricket crowds I think.

…but if a spammer does it first, it’s like *bump* recycling. The lesser of two netiket evils, or at least it’s secondhand smoke. Or something like that.
Herr Rant, isn’t the phrase “grinding the bumper”? I thought I heard it was; if so, I really should start following cricket.

I must say, that is rather extraordinary. When Liam bumped* that thread the other day I was tempted to bump precisely this one, it being the first ever thread of substance on this blog, in reply. And spammers beat me to it. Freaky.
* Is bumping a classic thread all that sinful? There have been some cracking threads on LP, and a little blogomantic resurrection allows us to enjoy them again. I know that Missy agrees – she told me so the other day at lunch, while we were waiting for Bono to show up.
