Acknowledgements, or, State of the Blog

It’s hard to believe that LP has just passed its second weekly anniversary, and is now entering its second calendar month. Yesterday was the biggest day in terms of readership – with 1236 unique hits (starting from an initial base of around 400). I just wanted to pause to properly thank Rob Corr for very kindly offering to host this blog on his domain, and for his assistance well beyond the call of duty in starting it up and tweaking it – I really can’t thank Rob enough – and also to Miss P and Liam for Wordpress hints. And a huge thank you as well to readers and commenters. There’s nothing sadder than a blog without lively discussion threads, and I’m very glad that the interchange of ideas, irony, humour and general camaraderie has got off to such a good start here at LP. Though I should emphasise that it’s not an absolute requirement to comment nude.

I’d also be more than happy if you cared to take the time to give me any feedback on this thread on anything to do with the joint.

What can I say? Feels like LP has always been around as a comfortable hangout where a girl can nude it up :) Seriously, you know, Mark… thanks!

I’ve been really impressed by the comments threads in particular. You have a knack for starting debates that are simultaneously heated and friendly, and always interesting. I just hope it continues — without interfering with your thesis, of course!

I don’t know how yours must be going, Mark, but you’re certainly interfering with my thesis.

How’s the blog goin? Only one of the finest in Australia. Parish is the John Mayall of the sphere. That’d make you, say, Mick Taylor. Stay away from the horse and keep rocking. Always elegantly.

What everyone else said. Well maybe not what Kim said. Well maybe I will nude up today. 36C.

Really hope you can shake that tonsilitis. And get finished with the thesis. If you can blog this well with all that and more on your plate, it scares me to think what you are like at full throttle. But I’d like to see!

Mark, you are similar to Steve Edwards in that you are somewhat preoocupied with blogging to the detriment of your thesis.

Remember you can always blog daily once the thesis is completed.

your blog is a plus to the blogosphere!

I think you should ask us to list our favourite things more. Otherwise, marvellous work.

Cheers, all. I’m chuffed – we must have passed some sort of milestone. I’ve just deleted the first genuine spam comment!

Zoe, any suggestions as to what favourite things?

Hmmm, Zoe, I don’t know if you’re being serious or if this is a normblog thing. I’m partial to shaved ham, swiss cheese and avocado or mustard.

Is there a reason Mark that your links don’t open in a seperate window? I personally find that more convenient, but maybe those with dialups dont …. ?

Anyway, LP off to a flying start! Altho’ as someone with a blog without many lively discussion threads, there are heaps of things sadder.

Amanda, I think it’s just the code that came with the template. I wouldn’t have the faintest about how to change it, but if people think it’s a good idea, I’d be happy to look into it.

Re – lively discussion threads, perhaps I should have written “a political blog”. :)

Bung target=”_blank” in the link code. I think its as easy as that, but you dont want to take a Blogger bloggers word for it. You don’t *have* to do it of course, but it is useful.

    No! target=”_blank” is evil!

It ought to be up to users to decide where they want to open their links. I don’t want new windows, and since there’s no visual clue to indicate that any given link will create a pop-up window, it’s frustrating when it happens.

If I want a new tab, I’ll middle-click the link; if I want the same tab I’ll left-click it; if I want a new window I’ll right-click and choose the appropriate option.

But if Mark wants to go down the road of pop-ups, etc, I’ll grudgingly change the templates.

I know, that nude commenting slippage is a bugger. I usually just get stack request slips and chock them under my thighs. The State Library chairs here are made of cane.

The trouble with Ble-tack is that it is like sand. Ends up where it should not be!

And Liam, do you find that you have a whole area of the library to yourself or is nuding up encouraged beween certain hours?

Since Rob’s the technical guru, and since I tend to prefer the choice myself, I reckon leave the links as they are.

I find that the Internet works fastyer in the nude, since less time is used to send clothing data.

I’m convinced that none of you regular bloggers spend enough time with your clothes off.
There’s a wonderful quote from Woody Allen in ‘Annie Hall’, now I’m quoting this from memory so go easy on me (I’ve noticed how finicky you can be) …but it goes something like this, “Intellectuals spend so much time trying to work out what’s going on in the world, yet they never really understand anything, but the body never lies.”

I was wondering if anyone had noticed the musical allusion in the abbreviation of the title of the blog – LP? An LP is generally considered to be a more sustained art form than an EP.
