Tim and tim

Tim Dunlop’s regular readers at Road to Surfdom might have noticed that he’s been having some server problems lately. Tim accepted an offer from leading right wing blogger Tim Blair to have a brief sojourn at his place. Tim’s now back at his own joint, though his archives haven’t yet been recovered and the site design has changed. It’ll be interesting to read Tim’s reflections on his time among the death beasts, which will be forthcoming soon. One thing I noticed was that few of Tim’s regular commenters made the journey with him, and the comments threads on his posts were largely inhabited by small b blairites. Never the twain shall meet?

As much as I admire and like Tim Dunlop, having to visit him at THAT site is too much of an ask.

I look forward to RTS when it’s operating again.

I didn’t even know he was at TB’s site until I read it on Surfdom today. Did I miss the announcement? I don’t think I made of stern enough stuff to start commenting there though.

I think it was mentioned on a comments thread here, Amanda, but I can’t remember which one.

Unloyal bitch that I am, I must confess to skimming over *a couple* of your eight thousands threads. That’ll learn me good.

I was curious as to how Andrea would apply her eviction policy to Tim D’s posts. It was a shame that things didn’t get nasty enough to find out.

It seems that Blair’s readers have become accustomed to coating anyone named “Tim” with feverish and drooling adulation.

As a result, Tim D seemed to have quite a good time of it while at Blair’s place. All in all it was quite surprising that the knives were not stuck in at every opportunity. Perhaps Tim D has rescued some bat-winged monkeys from the dark side. ;)

Amanda comments above: “I didn?Äôt even know he was at TB?Äôs site until I read it on Surfdom today. Did I miss the announcement?”

For some reason — hate, fear, envy, whatever — Tim Dunlop’s fellow Aussie lefty bloggers failed to promote his brief period of posting at Tim Blair’s.

J F, I’ve got a high regard for Tim. The last I heard of his blog troubles was an email from him, and as you might recall I posted at his request a notice that his server was totally down in case any of his readers also read LP (a high probability). I saw Kim’s comment which I linked to above on the weekend and was of a mind to check out his posts at Tim Blair’s this morning and post something drawing people’s attention to it. I wasn’t at the computer much over the weekend or yesterday. Then I got an email from Tim which prompted this post.

So in my case, it’s neither fear, envy or hate but lack of time.

I don’t think there’s much competitiveness among Australian lefty bloggers at all in fact – we all keep in touch via email (as I do with some righty bloggers).

I did notice tim’s commenters were civil to Tim, and good on them. Tim normally cops a bit of a spray from RWDBs at his own site. I wonder why the difference?

In my experience, “hate, fear, envy,” are rarely manifested in the blogosphere as the absence of comment.

And well some did notice Tim’s very brief stay, and some didn’t. Not everyone operates in the tight “on message” circle jerk of mutual self-promotion and self-congratulation that you seem familar with, Becky boy.

(Cue chorus: “No we don’t. We’re all individuals.”)

I assume you’re referring to the Bahnisch-Quiggin-Lambert circle jerk, which is, in any event, a daisy chain.

Your reactions are very defensive, boys.

Dunlop was snubbed, there’s no getting around it.

Fahcrissake Beck, left yer game. If yer gonna troll, at least try something that’s not some quarterarsed-assumption that really only reveals how you view the world, eg:”fear, hate, envy, snubbing.”

There’s nothing like a good flame war, and so far this is nothing like a good flame war.

Jeez, are you guys keen to get the focus off the TD snub and on to me, or what?

To Nobby’s credit he at least showed TD the courtesy of putting in an appearance at TB’s — as usual, Nobby was nearly funny. Good on ya for trying so hard. (Hey Nobby, do some pirate talk for me, it’s so nearly funny.)

Okay guys, I’ll sign off here — the troll accusation reeks of desperation — and leave you with your guilt. Comrades, indeed.

Oh wait Beck. Got another funny for yer. Amusing isn’t it how self-proclaimed RWDBs, so keen to extoll individual rights over the state, always think something must be wrong if people aren’t marching in lockstep.

Oh, he has flounced off hasn’t he? What a pussy.

We’re not going to get one here. Every post is the same, and just about everyone sounds like just about everyone else. No-one’s gettin’ fat ‘cept Evil P (with apologies to the Mamas and Papas).

This is what’s going to kill the blogosphere if it’s not careful, or at least render it (more) irrelevant – circular self-congratulation and enthusiatic self-agreement, marred only by the violent shaking of hands.

Rob, a bit of a pointless metablogging comment.

If you don’t want to agree, get arguing!

I thought you said tim’s place was boring for that reason as well.

We’ve had some pretty vigorous arguments over po/mo, religion, and other stuff (as well as some horrendous Homer puns) in recent days.

    Your reading is very selective.

Would you like me to do a post on anarchism?

Why do meta blogging posts always get the most comments?
Is it the opportunity to do snark without referring back to a topic? Or is it the pure contentless essence of blogs?
