I think particularly when kids come into the picture, it really helps that you have shared values. I would not like to be in a situation where my partner had very different ideas about something like private or public schooling, or immunisation or circumcision.

I personally couldn’t have a meaningful relationship with anyone that swung way right, way conservative, or way religious. Sometimes it’s good when you disagree about things with your significant other, but if some things are too… hard to overcome.
Plus any right wing love interest would probably try to smother me in my sleep just to shut me up. Even if I could overcome my own prejudices, would a Howard-voting Christian really find much about me all that lovable?
