Ok. Let me just say at the outset that we’re only just back at Mark’s place and when we ventured out tonight, we were unaware of the terrorist outrages in London.
So in that light, the night has become more sombre, but I think it’s fair to say that one thing that distinguishes a liberal society from its opponents is people’s right to express themselves, conduct themselves as they will, and enjoy their lives and actualise what’s best in their lives. That is sooo worth fighting for.
So Mark and I went first to the Casi**o, where he won 2k playing blackj**ck to fund our night (most of which proved utterly unnecessary for that purpose, and no doubt he’ll squirrel it away – but the huge wad of 100 dollar bills is nevertheless impressive in its own way) and then we went up the Valley. The Fiesta rocks. Unfortunately, the mobile phone photos of the Zen Zen Zo girls in bras and panties playing up in the Valley mall didn’t come out. But it’s so good to see people who are usually totally unused to this sort of improvisational and inspirational music enjoying Groove Collective at the Fringe Bar.
And I had a spiffy time dancing.
This post feels a bit lame now that we’re back and reading about what’s gone on. But – hey – there’s a serious point I think in saying that our right to enjoy excellent music, a few good drinks, and each other’s company is a good thing. Yeah?
Therefore I think the posting should go on.
That’s all. Goodnight.

Jesus. We still reserve our right to party.
Yes, we do, Rob. Like I said, Mark and I only heard about the tragic events when we got back about an hour ago. But if we’re standing for anything, it’s the freedom to dance and sing and express ourselves.
As Emma said – “if I can’t dance, it’s not my revolution”.
Like I also said, I’m now feeling much more sombre, very much so.
But I’d still like you to defend our right to party.
I hope I didn’t sound frivolous, Rob, but one thing that sets us apart from people living in Iran for instance, is that as well as democratic freedoms, we can enjoy ourselves. That’s what I was up to tonight. Like I said, before I heard the news. Now I’m saying some prayers on bended knee.
Not kidding, Rob, I’ve been crying. Like I said, I had friends who worked in the financial district of London on s11 and this sort of fear has hung over people’s heads for a long long time. It’s very sad it’s come to this pass.
I don’t share your faith, but I share the feelings behind it.
But personally I think the party’s off for a while.
Fair enough, Rob, but reflect on the idea that we shouldn’t let outrages like this disrupt our lives. One time I agree with George W. Bush. Please don’t think I’m not moved by this. Goodnight.
Rob – “quot homines, tot sententiae: suus cinque mos”.
I and several hundred others did not let the terrorist bombings stop us enjoying the Found: Quantity of Sheep “filmic interpretations” screening tonight. “If X then the terrorists have won” and all that.
Kim: ‘Propter fratres meos et proximos meos, loquebar pacem de te’.
Maximum remedium irae mora est.
Rob and Robert – bonum vinum laetificat cor hominis.
In this spirit – “Dum potes vivae”, I take myself to bed.
Benedicta es.
Et cum spirituo tuo.
Good to see Mark’s doctorate grant money is going to good use. That’s f***in’ Treasury!! Well done!
As a Pom, and former employee and resident in London’s square mile, I can safely say you should feel no guilt about partying at the Fiesta. My friends were all in pubs yesterday, having a few beers and chatting to strangers about ‘how they knew it had to happen someday’.
After Sep 11, we all headed to the local Corney & Barrow and got lagered. That is the British response. You may annoy the p!ss out of us but you ain’t gonna stop us getting sh*tfaced.
Mark, did you really win 2k?
I was going out tonight but then boss rang and wants me to come in at 6 instead of 8 tomorrow so, another night with BB for me. I am a little excited though at the thought of D*** getting a third strike.
(ps, i was gonna say before you closed the thread — and quite right too — that you know things have gone pear shaped when no one bothered to Popper on the 100th comment)
I was there, Amanda, and yeah, Mark won 2k.
Who won Friday night challenge tonight?
You are so right about forgetting Popper.
