Commenting Problems

If anyone has any difficulty posting comments on any thread, please email me. A few threads have been affected by some as yet unknown problem where changing the post slug seems to allow comments. We’re trying to work out why this might be happening. If you’re using IE, and it just freezes or times out, or if Firefox gives you this error message:

Redirection limit for this url exceeded. Unable to load the requested page. This may be caused by cookies that are blocked.

Please let me know.

It should now be possible to comment on cs’ post.

Bet it is the polarity of the flux capacitor again.

Probably should grease the trunnions while you’re under there, too.

For some reason, the htaccess rules cause some posts to get caught in a loop that times out. I’m going to try these alternative rules which seem simpler (and make Wordpress do the work). While I’m at it, I’ll install Scott Yang’s plugin to tidy up the URIs a bit.

Okay, I’ve made the changes. Fingers crossed, everyone!

Everytime I try to comment, I get a message telling me that I’ve already made the same comment. It’s like being trapped on the otherside of a parallel blogosphere, to which I’m denied access. Thus, I write this, fully expecting to soon be told that I’ve already written it.

Most accidents occur where the operator usually places one hand behind the nipple to steady it or else holds the cable near the nipple connection and then inserts the needle point. If the needle slips (and over many applications it is only a question of when it will) then it will almost certainly enter the hand or finger. For this reason only a shrouded needle point or push-on fitting should be used.

All grease guns are provided with safety devices but their effectiveness may be limited by the positioning of grease nipples, and protective covers may not be fitted as the operator rushes to get the job done quickly.

That reminds me of this year’s winner of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest:

As he stared at her ample bosom, he daydreamed of the dual Stromberg carburetors in his vintage Triumph Spitfire, highly functional yet pleasingly formed, perched prominently on top of the intake manifold, aching for experienced hands, the small knurled caps of the oil dampeners begging to be inspected and adjusted as described in chapter seven of the shop manual.

Mark, if you can’t read this comment, it’s a sure sign there’s still a problem!

If you can read this comment, however, just ignore it, and carry on with what you’re doing.

I know I’m limited to dull old dial-up, but the site is verrrrry slooooow today. Average time from main page to comment – 45 seconds. Is it just me, or is anyone else having response time problems? (No probs with other sites.)

I’m having the same problem Chris had the other day. I post a comment (on the multiculturalism thread), it doesn’t appear, I try to post again and I get a message saying I’ve already posted that content.

  15. Robert

Rob: I’ll send a note to the hosts, to see if they can diagnose the problem.

Kim: Let me know if it happens again. I can’t really say what’s causing it until a (possible) pattern emerges.

Me too. Just tried to goose observa on “The question on everyone’s lips” thread and the comment never materialised. After the third attempt I got some coy little “looks like you are trying to post a duplicate message” screen.

Told you you shouldn’t let a mere primate like Irant tinker with the fabric of the space-time continuum. He’ll be at the dilithium crystals next.
