Following up Kim’s post on women and body image, which sparked off a very interesting comments thread, Brisbane readers might be interested in visiting this exhibition at the Powerhouse:
A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND ATE
In support of the National Body Image & Eating Disorders Awareness Week (BIEDAW), Brisbane artist Eva Fritz and guests will be displaying an exhibition of paintings celebrating the diversity and beauty of the female form, as well as paintings that relate to society’s attitude to appearance and food.
Eva was inspired to do the exhibition as a way to bring attention to some of the issues that our society finds very uncomfortable talking about, and where media and public attitudes have been slow to catch up with our understanding of the impact of it’s often biased female portrayal and perceptions. “I’m really just concentrating on one aspect of a very complex area, that is, the particular significance of the relationship between self-esteem and physical appearance for women. I’m hoping the exhibition will draw attention to these issues, but in a very natural, fun and celebratory way,” Eva stated. Eva has invited a small number of artists to contribute to the exhibition also.
I’ve been invited to the opening tomorrow night, so I’ll let you know what I think. Women in Docs are playing – which means it’ll be a good night!

I dunno about this. At least you can get a decent steak at a Hermann Nitsch performance.
We’ll probably pop downstairs to Watt where you can get a decent steak, Nabs…
