Some hipster over at Liberal Party HQ has discovered viral marketing. The problem with this discovery, as Graham suggests over at Currumbin2Cook, is that they didn’t discover YouTube:
When the budget doesn’t stretch to TV…
build an Internet site and screen all the ads from last election that you might have liked to run this election, but couldn’t because you couldn’t really afford to even run any new ads.
At least that appears to be the Coalition’s solution, judging on the basis of http://www.sendbeattieamessage.com/.
They’re hoping for a viral marketing coup in the last few days. Hope away. The ads aren’t good enough for any but the nerdiest to distribute them. They certainly don’t rate compared to this John West classic.
Oh, and by the way guys, you didn’t even need to build the site – YouTube have done it for you. So you could have just uploaded the ads and saved the money for the website and spent it on some radio ads instead!
Click through and weep. Or be astounded. Or something.

Wow, that’s really lame. Graham is spot on, this is more about a small advertising budget than good marketing. It looks like it too. Nothing like a manufactured grass rootsish movement. Does this count as astro-turfing?
Did you sort out the voting thing over there, mick?
Not really. I’ve faxed a form away but I doubt it will get everything done in time. I should have done this months ago, at least it’ll all be sorted for the federal election, should I still be here by then.
Mark, would you agree that the shortness of the Queensland election threads at LP compared to the length of most of the other recent threads is another pointer to a Labor landslide?
Mark and Graham Young are quoted in this story in the Australian on how people will vote against the coalition: http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20367656-2702,00.html
while the following story points to a patchy surge in votes for the coalition: http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,20366586-3102,00.html
I wonder if the last story, from “secret Labor research”, was leaked to encourage people to not vote for the coalition?
Saw a piece on the Quinceland election last night on 730 report. Nice to get some coverage down here finally. I hadnt fully realised what a gimpus Flegg was till the footage of him spilling hospital bed figures down the front of his shirt.
My sense with the QLD libs is there’s actually some sort of gene pool problem. Its the uncompetitive remnants of very small pride. Flegg bears an uncanny resemblance to the unfortunate Dennis Napthine, former opp leader in Vic, and I suspect may last as long.
Securing a protest vote while in opposition will certainly be a notable achievement. I’ll been keenly following results at an ex-pat QLDer party on sat night.

Or it could be it’s just a pointer to not everyone who comments here being from Queensland?
I dunno. What marketing genius (doubtless on a 5 figure salary package) thought this one up? What do they say? If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then its gotta be a duck. This site looks like a piece of crap…
Sometimes ya just gotta shack your head and wonder…
Cheers…
I think Paul is right. I think most of Ozplogistan called it a couple of weeks ago and now really don’t care.
