American and British TV shows are extremely fond of seasonal special episodes, best exemplified by The Simpsons‘ annual Halloween episodes and The Vicar Of Dibley‘s Christmas episodes, and most travestied by the Star Wars Christmas Special. We don’t seem to go in for them here as much, although I think the Neignbours gang might have trotted off in timely fashion to the Melbourne Cup every now and then.
So, in breaking news, South Park‘s Halloween episode this year features Steve Irwin, complete with stingray barb in chest, attending the Devil’s annual Halloween party along with Hitler and Princess Diana.
There’s a lot of huffing and puffing about insensitivity to the family, but from the description in the linked article, it strikes me as the kind of thing Irwin himself would actually laugh about.

I just love the way that TV news has been giving the clip blanket coverage while simultaneously pouring forth the condemnation with a conga line of cement trucks.
Thought it pretty funny myself.
Is it just me o does anyone else think that the instances of people being “offended on behalf of” are getting out of hand?
We cannot let the God-fearing heathen yankee scum desecrate a national icon like dear Steve Irwin. That way madness lies.
He is *our* hero-dujour.
Or, we could just download this particular episode of South Park from some illegal website and have a good laugh.
It’ll be interesting to see if any dufus pollies or commentarians get hot under the collar about this viscious attack on *our* national pride.
I have no doubt that it’ll get onto OzTV soon enough.
Though it wouldn’t surprise me if *our* other na(o)tional TViCON, Naomi “Do I look fat in this gekko?” Robson raises a telegenic eyebrow of disgust in the direction of the South Park dudes.
And what was wrong with the Star Wars Christmas Special?…oh, jeez its all coming back. I’m off to the pub.
What kind of love ones would object to a representation of the dearly departed being chucked out of hell?
A zinger Derrida would be proud of.
