Channel 10 News just reported on the Jetstar plane that had an emergency landing in Indonesia.
To report the story, they used what was obviously stock footage of Jetstar planes rather than the actual plane in Indonesia.
How can we tell? Showing three different models of airliner in one story is a bit of a giveaway.

LOL! How funny.
Talking about stupid things done on television – I was watching a show on Nine the other day, they were showing a plane adventure you can do where the plane goes into a controlled dive, allowing you to experience weightlessness. The presenter enthusiastically said that you can float around, completely weightless, “like in space or on Moon or Mars”.
Needless to say, on Moon or Mars the gravity would quickly bring you crashing down (even if you wouldn’t crash quite as hard as on Earth).
Sometimes you have to wonder about these people.
Anything related to aviation fires off the boy wonder gross enthusiasm of even the oldest reporter, it seems.
Amongst the aviation fraternity it is a standing joke to nit pick the ludicrous statements that are made in nearly every report of anything even faintly connected to the high (but utterly simplistic) journalistic drama of every aviation event.
A retired airline captain, I have offered my services for gratis to a number of news sources to rewrite their aviation news reports so that a report’s language reflects reality, ans so won’t make them look like complete gits.
Never had an answer.
They prefer the drama of utter gitness.
I’ve been looking for a way to make that point that way. No longer.
Grab a slot here Captain Cluse – even if it’s just a holding pattern thang.
LP, or any blog for that matter, can and should always use more aviation correspondents who have both a sardonic sense of humour and are IFR rated – which is essential for all hours commenting.
Television news? Accuracy? – What is the connection, please?
I’ve completely given up on major network news. Seven, nine and ten are like the Courier Mail of the televised media world.
We’re VMC all the way here, Nabby.
Some years ago my TV tube blew but the sound was fine. I only ever bother with ABC & SBS (the latter no longer)news and quickly realised that the visuals added precisely nothing. Current account deficit? a shot of the Reserve Bank in Martin Plaza or money zipping through a counter etc. When was the last time the visuals were anything other than eye candy? OK, 9/11 or floods but in the latter case they could be file and you’d neither know nor care.
